This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

Advent calendar #2. Fairly thin, dry but a bit sweet, malty. Roasty coffee, dark chocolate, a touch of burnt sugar. Smooth, very oldschool, very nice.

2018 Bottle: Super deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin, single centimetre tall fast-dying off-white and light tan head that leaves nothing on top, even after just a few seconds, and while no movement below, not much transparency at all, seeming around 90 per cent opaque. Aroma of molasses, figs, roasted malt, oatmeal, chocolate, light bread, some treacle, a dash of coffee and a hint of raisins towards the end, - strong but not too pungent, especially for the style. Medium-bodied; Strong molasses and roasted malt flavours dominate with an extra emphasis on the sugars here with some brown sugar, caramel and toffee in the mix as well, but fairly pungent in terms of sugars with a nice underlay from the roasted and toasted malts, but nothing bitter or pungent here, and ending nicely with a smooth transition to a bready finish. Aftertaste shows a pretty good balance of malts and sugars without anything too potent and no real alcohol warmth felt, but at 10,5% this might always be like this, however, the aging, given the thinner body (not thin, just not thick) shows through, making the real aging seem already done in this bottle. Overall, a pretty nice Imperial Stout, luckily on the lighter side, but still enjoyable and the flavours show enough complexity, but end light enough to be crisp, sweet and not pungent in the slightest bit with no lingering bitterness. I sampled this 37,5 cL bottle, purchased from Carmine Street Beers in New York (Greenwich Village), New York on 13-August-2018 for US$7,99, with a picture of the state of Ohio labelled 2018 (only vintage on the bottle) and sampled just over four years later at my house here in Washington on 23-September-2022.

Blik thuis geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een pikzwart bier met een volle bruinige schuimkraag. Het heeft een aroma van koffie, drop en chocolade. De smaak is vol, chocolade, caramel en koffie achtig.

Last beer of the night, 8th January 2022, in an Air B&B, Jochua Tree, California. Jet black body with a wispy tanned head. Slick and boozy with malty molasses giving off various aromas and flavours like dark chocolate, coffee and toffee.

Bottle picked up from Biervana, München and consumed at Campsite Karwendelcamp, Scharnitz, Austria, Friday 11th July 2019 sat inside Frank (camper) it's raining again now. Pours shark eye black with a light tan head. Super smooth and creamy mouthfeel, some rich chocolate notes. Unfortunately the taste is not living up to expectations, don't get me wrong, it's fine enough but it's not the beer I hoped for. It's got the usual big Impy Stout hallmarks but really other than this it's no better than a whole host of similar beers excepting the great mouthfeel.

Bottle, 0.375l. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt, cocoa, molasses and dried fruit. Pours almost black color with thin creamy light brown head and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts with moderate sweet roasted malt, coffee and molasses, follows by caramel and nuts, mouthfeel is warm and moderate spicy, while finish is medium grassy bitter. Full body, oily texture and average carbonation in palate. The Apparition by Iron Maiden...
