This hauntingly good brew in your hand is rife with dark complexities. Eleven malts were used to create deep flavors of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and molasses. A hint of bitterness and herbal character from carefully selected American hops help support the monolithic maltiness of Dark Apparition. A truly decadent brew that is intended to be poured into your favorite snifter and given time to warm up from its dark and cold resting place. Be aware when in the presence of Dark Apparition ’cause this ghost is a creeper.

I’ve got a headache, time for some medicine: Jackie O’s Dark Apparition Russian Imperial Stout 10.5% Dark brown with a wispy rusty tan foam that was gone in a blink. It has an intense savory soy roasty aroma. The lush full body has loads of dark chocolate and toasted caramel notes, a pleasing nuttiness and maybe hints of smoke. Very smooth supper without any indications of the high ABV.

375ml bottle. Pours black with a dense creamy tan head. Aroma of molasses, dark chocolate, coffee. Taste is rich, sweet, molasses, dark chocolate, coffee, roast malts, Full bodied, thick and creamy. Excellent stout.

Snagged this 12.7 oz bottle while in NYC on a holiday in the late summer. Cooler weather, time to drink the imperial stout. And Jackie O's has always been good to me. Always. In a snifter it goes, black of course. Remaining is a thin ring of light tan foam. A fine smell, chocolate, coffee and strawberry jam. I take a sip, oh my goodness. Different for an imperial stout, dark fruit, grapes, dark chocolate, grain, malt, cereal and a toffee sweetness. Good indeed.

Bottle from 2014 shared @ X3 Får Skideren På af Mange-share. Pours pitch black with a small brown head. Aromas of bready malts, roast, dark chocolate, dark fruits, caramel, licorice. Taste has bitter roasty malts, dark chocolate, dark fruits, licorice, cherries, caramel, light oxidization.

375ml bottle. Quasi black colour with small to average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty. chocolately and slightly spicy, dark malty aroma, notes of dark chocolate, Belgian chocolate, a marmite touch, hints of coffee, molasses, a touch of dark caramel, white coffee. Taste is slightly bitter, roasty, minimally ashy, chocolately dark malty, suble caramel sweetness, notes of dark chocolate, Belgian chocolate, some coffee, a touch of almond, minimally warming, alcoholic finish. Relatively light body, oily-watery texture, smooth and soft palate, relatively lively, prickly carbonation.

Pours deep mahogany-tinged black into a snifter. Mocha head with good retention recedes to mottle surface. Chocolate and vanilla aromas. Thick with hot vanilla, dark caramel, soy, licorice and chocolate upfront turning to mild charred, briny earth in the lasting finish.

Bottle. A- Roasty, licorice, molasses. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Roasty, leather, mild chocolate. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- A traditional no frills stout. Big beer but this would be great one a cold night with a book and a fire. Not one I would reach for regularly but good. Would like to try some variants.
