The flagship of Fehér Nyúl. Its story originated in our founders’ kitchen. As homebrewers often do, they were looking for the ”standard IPA” recipe that is lurking inside everyone’s head who has ever tried brewing this style. When the mission was accomplished, our IPA got drafted into the Hungarian national homebrewing championship. Out of more than 70 beers, it came top, giving a crucial push towards the start of Fehér Nyúl. Its recipe has changed a tiny bit since, to reflect current changes in the IPA market, but it’s still a classic American IPA.

Draft at Eleszto, Budapest. Poured an unclear golden colour with a mostly lasting frothy white head. The aroma is malt, light toffee. The flavour is moderate to light sweet and bitter, with a smooth, somewhat rich, malt, light toffee, herbal, light woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

330 ml can. Cloudy orange with a huge fluffy head. Mostly stone fruit, some strawberries, resinous hops, grapefruit zest. Hoppy bitterness, some fruity sweetness. Medium bodied, oily texture, soft carbonated, dry hoppy fruity bittersweet finish. Decent IPA for beginners.

Klassisches IPA mit ordentlicher Bitterkeit und kaum Schaumkrone. Wirklich innovative Aromen finde ich aber keine. Im Prinzip kein schlechtes Bier, aber inzwischen hat sich der Stil weiterentwickelt, was ich etwas vermisse. Also wenig Grasigkeit und nix Fruchtigkeit. Das kann man sogar in Ungarn besser.

0.33l can. Slightly opaque golden body with a white head. Mostly blackberries and pine in the aroma but it also shows notes of grass, sugar syrup and oats (according to the label it only contains barley malts). Taste of sugar syrup, grapefruit, pine , grape seed and grass. It has a nice crisp hop bitterness to it in the finish. Nice IPA.

Tap at Szimpla kert, Budapest. One of those simple IPAs that can really hit the spot. Nice sweetness and addictive ending. Good work.
