Almost 2 years ago, we met Dimitri & Janos from Dok Brewing Company
in Gent... what was a get-to-know/courtesy visit ended up in a “Train des Ridéra” game that directly cemented the friendship, raised the drinking skills but also gave the name of what will be brewed together someday!
And 2 years later (we had to postpone it twice last year... thanks Covid!) that day arrived - the Train de Ridéra got to the station!
As the train got played with a quadrupel, we went for a 9.8% Rhum Raisins Quadrupel with a rich malt complexity, which leaves it thicker than the Trappist versions.
For the eyes, a dark brown color with dark red reflexes and a clear brown foam.
For the smell and taste, delicious dark fruity esters and smooth balance between alcohol and malts.
The label refers to the vision of rails after leaving the Train des Ridéra table

33cl bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark brown, elegant, with moderate, light brown foam. Aroma is intensely malty, molasses, barrel, figs. Body is only partially dense, elegant, with soft carbonation. Taste is pretty sweet, with a long, elegant and softly carbonated final.

Bottle. Very deep brown with slowly fading beige head. Majestic dried and stewed fruit aroma with lightening Panettone notes. No obvious rum (not a complaint). Getting towards syrupy with a booming alcohol note under the richness. Bread, cake, dried fruit, spices. Not all that sweet considering. Little if any bitterness (this seems to be a 2020 bottle) but there's a lick of acidity and a tea-like drying element to the end that closes things off nicely. Good.

Bottle shared. Brown colored, high sized light brown head. Aroma and flavor are malts, dusty malty, caramel a bit, earthy. Meh. Boring and not nice.

15 June 2021. At Dok Brewing Company. Cheers to the Teamleader crew! Thanks to Annelies for sharing the bottle and sparing my liver. Hazy brown, stable, frothy, yellowish tan head. Aroma of rum-soaked raisin, date, dried fig, plum jam, walnut, pear syrup, old chocolate, wet wood, solvent. Taste has very sweet raisin, date, prune & pear in a thick caramelly, syrupy, slightly biscuity malt body, vague chocolate presence with some nuts on top, residual brown sugar is tangible but not disturbing. Herbal hoppy finish, lingering dried fruits, wet wood and heating brown rum-like alcohol. Medium to full body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Not too heavy on the raisins actually, but strong and boozy for sure. Enjoy with care.

9/IV/21 - 33cl bottle from DOK Brewing Company (Ghent), shared @ home, BB: I/26, Lot: 045/20 (2021-260)
Clear dark brown beer, big solid creamy beige brown head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: soft roast, caramel, dried fruits, alcohol, very malty, grains, some chocolate notes. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet start, dark caramel, lots of alcohol, nice roast, good bitterness, dark chocolate notes, dried fruits, more alcohol. Aftertaste: sweet and alcoholic, yet pretty balanced with some bitter hops and a soft roast, dark chocolate, lovely stuff, really like it!

Bottle picked up from Etre Gourmet Webshop, Grez-Doiceau, Belgium Consumed at home Wednesday 31st March 2021 watching a film called St Vincent on Netflix. Pours dark brown with an off white head. Aroma is dried fruits, actually it's not unlike a sherry trifle or Christmas Pudding with a little marzipan added, also a touch of boozy alcohol and Christmas (again) spices. These aromas also show up in the mouth, along with big maltiness and some sticky dates, good beer, it's a nice sipper.

33cl bottle from Drink Factory in Mons. F: medium, tanned, quick gone. C: dark brown, opaque. A: malty, mellow fruity, raisins, bit nutty, caramel, leaves, marzipan touch, dates, rum touch. T: full malty base, mellow fruity, raisins, bit herbal, toast, rum warming alcohol, nutmeg, spicy, soft carbonation, bit thin body for such ABV but beside this quite nice balanced, enjoyed for sure.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 01/2026, lot# 045/20.
