Iron Horse Pale Ale is a boldly aromatic Northwest style pale ale. It pours a deep gold color with a thick white head that lingers in the glass. The first impression is the immense hop aroma that wafts out of the glass, thick with tropical fruit, floral, and grapefruit notes. Iron Horse makes for a great, sessionable, hoppy pale ale that makes hop lovers go crazy!

Undated can shipped from France44 into a tulip. A: Poured 1" head over a mostly clear dirty gold body. Slow bubbles, very good retention and thick lace. S: Loud citrus and tropical fruit scent Some peachy astringency. T: Sharply bitter, tart and fruity at once, settling to mostly pine and pith. Sweet tropical aftertaste. IPAesque. M: Light bodied with stiff bubble scrub. Dry finish cuts through the hop resin. O: Very nice. Also, the pack carrier did have a date sticker but was rubbed out so I guess the brewer tried. I would buy this regularly if possible.

Can. Orange, mango, caramel malt, and grapefruit peel aroma. Golden yellow with huge off-white head. Lightly sweet orange caramel malt and moderately bitter grapefruit peel/pine flavor. Okay body. Pretty good.

The beer is a light gold color. The liquid is somewhat hazy. Medium white head, dissipates mostly after a minute or two. The aroma is mostly citrus hop flavor, lime and orange. There’s a funny stale vegetal note in there. Mild malt character. Boring and what’s there isn’t great. Taste is mildly dry. Light bitterness. Little flavor. Less stale flavor but it’s there in the background. Not quite crisp enough to really be refreshing. Mild. Just eh. Light body. Odd staleness in the finish. Not great.

Poured from a 12 oz can. Aroma is fairly hoppy but with an herbal, vegetable and spicy hop note with some woody characteristics. Light grain notes with cracker malt notes and a touch of toasted bread. A hint of a red apple ester. Pours a hazy, pale gold with a medium sized, thick white head that recedes to the edges where it lingers. Moderate lacing and no legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with a nice grain note and some cracker character. Medium bitterness. Light hop profile with a woody and slight grapefruit note. A light resinous note with hints of fruit notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, I was not a fan of the aroma - it smalls like old, nasty hops. The flavor is much better though, but still comes off as a bit stale. Hop profile is a bit better in the flavor, but that may just be because it is so muted.

Live rating on 10th May 2016. 12oz can from Greg Wilson, cheers mate for my first ever beer from North Dakota (my 101st region on RateBeer). Poured slowly into a Corsendonk stemmed tulip glass at my daughters place in Orange County. Decent white head on a hazy, dull Orange pour. Fruity and hoppy with an orange feel. As the beer warms a little it becomes more bitter and drier citrus fruits like grapefruit come to the fore.

12 ounce can into pint glass, purchased at the brewery on 11/13/2015. Pours slightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, melon, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fantastic aromas with awesome balance and complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, melon, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, melon, papaya, lemon/orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Fair amount of dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 5%. Overall this is a fantastic pale ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

Can at home via a little trade of random brews. Orange pour almost no head. Nose is caramel and malt light pine. Tastes of pine, grapefruit, malty, caramel, resin, some fruit. Not all that bitter or hoppy but enjoyable enough.

12 ounce bottle from the great white north. Pours a nice orange color with a small white head. A big wafting citrus nose. The flavor is excellent; huge citrus, marmalade, toast. Very smooth. I could drink many of these. Awesome Pale.

12 oz. can, from my Secret Santa. Pale yellow color, with a medium, white head. The nose is pine, papaya, whole grains, bitter orange peel, and some light honey. Very bitter flavor, but with a fair, grainy backbone. Medium body, astringent, chalky, and a little thick. This is a pretty decent pale ale. Great aroma, but the flavor is overly aggressive and bitter, with an off-putting malt character.
