The beer that started it all. Caribbean Chocolate Cake is a dense, rich and luxurious stout – even more so this year with the smooth, thick drinking nitro edition. The body of this beer is full and decadent, encapsulating the ‘Cake’ element in the name more than ever before! Hand-roasted cacao nibs give hints of tamarind and soft lemon, along with a beautiful chocolate baseline. The malts provide coffee and roast notes in abundance, while the hop profile adds orange and coconut flavours. Spinning on Cypress wood is the icing on the cake - offering lightly toasted vanilla wafers and delicate tannins, balancing the inherent sweetness of the beer. Pure canned indulgence.

A black beer, a head is thick, medium and beige. Aroma has caramel, chocolate, richness of malts, some vanilla and liquorice. hint of citrus. Taste has maltyness, some chocolate and roastiness, citrucy hoppyness. Almost full bodied, not stickyness. Easy to enjoy. This is great beer, balanced and enjoyable.

Can. Black with a dense inch of nitro head. Aroma of sweet tropical notes under lots of batter-like chocolate. Not as sweet as expected but pretty sweet. The fruity notes are interesting but I'm not entirely convinced they go. A little bitterness at the end along some medicinal notes that are presumably the Cypress.

330ml can from the brewery. Poured a clear black colour with a lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, molasses, toffee caramel and liqourice. The flavour is over moderate sweet, light liqourice bitter, with a silky smooth, rich, slightly oily, roasty, chocolate, toffee, light pepper spice, liqourice bitter palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Can: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with light retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet cocoa notes with some black chocolate notes. Taste is also dominated by sweet cica notes with some black chocolate notes with a watery finish. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Great beer but not sure the nitro treatment was required.

Half-pint, vintage 2021, cask at Nag's Head. Shared with Finn. Remaining tan head, scattered lacing, pitch black body. Attractive aromas of grainy chocolate and cocoa. Tastes as a kind of chocolate cake, supported by a touch of ripe fruits. Smoothly roasted chocolate malts to the finish, earthy. Fine bodied. Good drinking. (Reading 19.11.2021).
