The Piper is our flagship IPA. Lovely malty backbone, bittered with Chinook and then plenty of Mosaic at the end of the boil, and then dry-hopped with even more.

33cl can Drink Store, Dublin, BB 21/10/2018.

Keg halfpint at The Workshop / Kennedy’s Bar, Dublin, as Four Provinces The Piper IPA. Dark amber colour, white (or slightly off-white) head. Aroma of malts, berries and piney hops. Distinctly hoppy flavour with piney notes, fairly dry, on a background of slightly roast malts.

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [120815]
Dark amber orange, hazy, frothy white head, some lacing
Aroma of soft caramel, some soft red berry fruits, hint of orange
Taste of caramel malts, caramelised orange, soft zest, dab of red fruits, bit of yeast (was bottle conditioned), not that hoppy tbh, quite malty
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, bit fizzy, light sweet, palate a bit claggy. Finish of soft bitter zest.
Overall - Expected it to be more hoppy as it’s labelled an IPA. The palate might be better if tried on keg. It’s OK.

500mL bottle poured into a nonic glass. Very very similar to "The Hurler", copper/red color with the same white to off white head. Aroma is extremely similar, slight bit more floral hop character, but very slight. Biscuit, toast, some floral hops in the flavour, but same bitter finish. Overall another nice beer, but I would actually put both in the Irish red ale category, The Hurler is a bit more malty and balanced, this one a slight bit more hoppy but both cut from the same cloth.
