Brewed with smoked oak malt, hopped exclusively with Hallertau Mittelfruh, and finished with champagne yeast to get it to 16.6% alcohol. Aged on bourbon-soaked toasted guavawood.

Sample courtesy of Grumbo, cheers Graham! Deep amber brown colour, some off-white bubbles on top and aroma of toffee, molasses, caramel, malty. Taste is sweetish, malty, molasses, toffee, caramel, brown sugar, bourbon notes, walnut, very boozy. Oily mouthfeel, full bodied, soft carbonation, drying nutty boozy finish. Nicely sippable.

Sample thanks to Grumbo. Many thanks chap. Pours a cola brown, with a handful of bubbles atop. Boozy aroma with mild smoked malt. Quite a punchy taste, moderate smoked malt with an alcohol kick at the back of the throat. Wood varnish and dark toffee notes emerge, alongside some leathery bourbon hints that grow throughout the glass. Interesting.

1/3/2022. Bottle (#328 of 1098) from BEEReaucracy, Davao City. 2017 Gran Reserve allowed to develop the 5 years the label states it can before opening. Wasn't sure how it would open and whether it might be lively especially as it wasn't easy keeping the bottle still whilst removing thick green wax from around the lid. Needn't have wondered as it opened with no sign of life at all and poured clear dark copper brown with no head. Not an especially attractive pour. Aroma is woody, boozy, toffee, butterscotch, prune, dried fruit, malt, bread, wet walnut, light toasty smoky notes. Medium sweetness, with a moderately sharp alcohol bitterness. Quite full bodied, oily mouthfeel, minimal carbonation. Warming, slightly harsh boozy finish. Got the 16.6% abv. Certainly appreciated the rarity of this one, remembering back to my efforts to secure it from Davao, and quite enjoyed it too.

33 cl. bottle number 999 of 1028 shared with Suus and Hilde @ Alex and Suus. Clear dark copper without a head. Taste is sherry-like, malty and boozy. Taste is sweet, boozy and fairly oxidized. I don't know if this is a good special beer of a terrible trainwreck of a beer but it is certainly interesting. I do not believe the 16,6% though.
