St George's Ale is a dragon slayer of a brew. Its deliciously smooth, full flavoured and powerful hoppy aroma make it a full bodied English beer that would ward off the most ferocious of fire-breathing legends.

Cask handpull at the Lamb Tavern, Leandenhall Market. Copper colour with sparse beige head. Yeasty hop aroma with sufficient drying hop on end. Fullish in mouth. Quite rounded malts, but lacks intensity of flavour. Some red berry fruit. Hop is a bit underdeveloped

Draught. Dark amber colour, creamy mediumsized head, lacing. Fruity bitter aroma with hints of soap. Flavour is hoppy, a bit rubbery and of barnyard. Also some sweetness around, especially in aftertaste.

Draught
Copper brown color, good cloudy off-white head. Sweetish aroma (strawberries?), very mildly hoppy. Metallic mouthfeel. Crisp, oaky hoppy, medium-bodied. Woody, metallic malty. Keg was perhaps not at its best, so rerate is pending.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pretty, light brown ale with a neat little head. Not overly full-bodied but comes with a nice hop aroma and ditto bitterness. Vague caramelish, malty notes. Decent if not exactly a great Bitter. 250603

500ml bottle from Sainsburys. Deep amber/copper colour with thin off white head. Rather attractive malt nose with good fragrant hop. Finish has tangy hops with some earthiness too. Some citrus flavours. Malts are a bit gingerish even. Rather a fun and enjoyable beer.

Light orange-amber; dense creamy head, very slowly receding. Very creamy nose, coffee-milk (no diacetyl), bit herbal too (laurel, bay-leaf). Some cookie malt underneath. Sweet-bitter taste, constantly holding each other in balance at first. Then sweet seems to get the upper hand, acquiring (again) a taste/mouthfeel that is reminding me of double cream. But then the finish is even a bit acidic, like lots of COยฒ. Restrained flavours of soft herbs and some sweet malt. Warming up, there is an additional flavour of dried apricots emerging. Medium bodied at best. English ales are notoriously lacking in mouthfeel, this oneโ€™s anything but an exception. But it offers a nice, non-standard flavour profile. Hoppiness was obviously not the first requirement, although the label speaks about a "powerful hoppy aroma". Then again, it calls itself a "full bodied ale"...
