NKB Hokitika Hootch is an IPA inspired by the rugged and wild West Coast of New Zealand. Loads of Nelson Sauvin and a touch of sour malt give the Hootch its bountiful tropical tones and a mild tartness.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a cloudy, opaque deep golden with a lacing, off-white head. Odd, unfresh aroma, a hint of tartness as well. Absolutely NOTHING of the "punchy tropical aromas" of NS as promised on the label. Medium body, totally unclean and unfresh taste, again with a hint of tartness and a slightly bitter finish. Tuatara is normally a quality brewery but I have no clue why they'd be involved in this mess. 301117

Rerate, on tap at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. Golden colour, white head. Moderate fruity, citrussy and dusty aroma. Citrussy pleasant flavour (diverse citrus fruits), very refreshing, good bitterness. Remarkably much better than the bottle, so I'm upping the score a lot. Original rating (score 2.6): 330 ml stubby bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 6.5%, hop is Nelson Sauvin, 45 IBU. Cloudy orange colour, small off-white head. Aroma of sour mash / lactic acid, stale marmalade, grain and dust. The flavour is only moderately acidic, and somewhat better than the aroma. Grain and some fruit, bitter finish, slightly metallic.

Hazed deep golden color with a fine thick off white head. Nice lacing. Looks good and inviting. Fine hoppy aroma. Pleasant intensity. Ok balanced sweetness versus bitterness. Semi dry ending. Medium (+) body and a fine carbonation level. Citric, mild caramel malty, fruity and pine in the flavor. Nice lasting end.
