Historically, doppelbock was "liquid bread" for monks during times of fasting when they weren’t permitted to eat solid food, and understandably, the original brewers of this style named their beer "Salvator" which is Latin for "Savior". While we’re not under the same strict dietary restrictions as those monks, we still love a good doppelbock. It pours dark with a creamy head which gives way to a malty, toasty aroma. The flavour is a full-bodied, malty sweetness that goes well with a big meal. While this beer may not be your savior, it might help you become a procrastinator for an evening.

On tap at Lervig Local, Stavanger. Pours hazy dark copper with off-white head. Aroma of dark bread, malt, notes of chocolate, some fruity notes. Tastes sweet with little bitterness. Medium bodied. A decent Doppelbock.

A stellar beer.

Tap @ Lervig Local. Unclear brown body under a small tan head. Strong aroma of malt, caramel and dry fruit. Quite sweet with lots of malt flavor, caramel, dry fruit, bread and moderate bitterness. Fine body and long lasting, sweet malty aftertaste ending with some warming alcohol. A fine bock.

170ml draught at Ølhallen. A tiny, fawn-coloured head blanketing the glass. Dark brownish body with a rustic glint. Nicely roasted malty aromas, hints of caramel and dark fruits. Rich taste of caramel-chocolate, nuts, and prunes, followed by a rounded ending of roasted bitterness. Fine depth. Good drinking. (Tromsø 02.08.2021).
