Day Two of the Great Chris Meyer/Aaron Nielsen Franconian Beer Tasting in Schlitz. Prost! A bit hazy, yellow appearance with a white head. Quite a nice, musty, husky grainy, a bit chalky aroma. Light lemon, rich grainy malty, somewhat herbal/chalky, lightly floral flavor. Very nice.

Bottled (from landbierparadies.com). Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is grains, some mild wooden notes, quite bitter notes as well as some grassy and hayish notes. Flavour is rather similar with some mild herbal notes as well. Also some slight vegetably notes.

Bottle, 4.6% bought at the brewery. Fruity aroma. Almost clear golden colour. Small white head. The flavour is OK malty, has a little rotten vegetables. Grainy finish.

Clear golden with a tiny white head. Aroma had lovely fresh floral hops. Flavour was crisp with fresh floral hops. Finished dry and bitter. Lovely example for the region.

On tap at Brauerei Pfister, Weigelshofen, during Fin and Loz’s cycle ride around villages to the South and South East of Bamberg, Germany 19-06-10 Pours gold with a very slight haze and a white head. There is a cleaner more lager like nose than the other pfister, soft in mouth, bit creamy with some vanilla, easy to get on with. A6 A4 F7 P3 Ov13 3.3

Ceramic mug. Thick head. Lightly hoppy, minerally nose. Pale malts and a soft body. Herbal hops but low bitterness, as is typical for landbier. It’s easy drinking but misses the key pleasure points.

50cl Bottle at In de Wildeman as öko-landbier. Clear golden yellow colour, white head. Aroma of sweet malts and light hops. Flavour is sweet, malty and light hoppy, with a light bittersweet finish. Medium bodied. Highly drinkable.

Etwas plörrig hopfenbitterer Antrunk, trocken. Ab dem Mittelteil wässrig werdend, die Intensität nimmt rapide ab. Noch leicht bitter-grasig, sehr wässrig. Schwacher Auftritt. Test vom 14.8.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 8,6,6,5,8,6 - 6,15
Earlier Rating: 5/8/2011 Total Score: 2.4
Herb laffer, ziemlich ungewöhnlicher Antrunk und weiteres Aroma. Dunkel, getreidig, dann sehr gerstog, weich. Hefig, recht mild Unspektakulär. 9/8/7/6//7

Draught at the brewpub. Hazy deep golden, small head. Buttery rounded malt with some vague hay. Mediu bodied with some spun sugar. Low bitterness. Good, but restrained rustic beer.

(draught at the brewery) Clear, deep golden colour with a medium-sized, slightly off-white foamy head. Slightly dusty, moderately sweet pale malt aroma, accompanied by shy herbal hops and a whiff of barnyard. Medium-sweet flavour; pale malt character, slightly chalky taste with herbal notes; light bodied; medium-dry malty finish with a light hoppy bitterness. Clean, but nothing special.
