hink legendary. This distinct ruby beer’s sweet caramel and fruity aromas tease the taste buds. Brewed with smooth and rich chocolate and crystal malts and a blend of Fuggles and Styrian Golding hops. Expect a delicious full-bodied toffee flavour and a fruity finish of figs, raisins and dates. Drink legendary.

500 ml can. Dark red bronze, yellow foam. Aroma combines British malt and hops, caramel, biscuit, sweets, a little jam, a light floral-spicy hop note. Taste: good malt, caramel, biscuit, dried fruits, jam, mild earthy bitterness.

Pours with pretty good foam and a deepish brown body. Smells of chewy malt and biscuit, soft chunky hop notes. Flavour is deep biscuit, caramel, molasses notes. Hops invisible. Not bad, a little sweet.

Cask at Market Vaults, Stafford (not listed in RateBeer) Used to drink this a lot, but it’s been a long time since I’ve had one. Pours a reddish brown with a small cream head and good lacing. Nose is vaguely malty. In the mouth the texture is creamy with plenty of mslts and a little ginger – which continues into the finish. A pleasant surprise – nice and drinkable.

Draft @ Lord Nelson, Bielefeld. Clear dark ruby red nice with a beige/white head, Aroma of malts, toffee, plums and some marzipan. Taste follows aroma plus a little bit of chocolate and fruity esters. Moderate bitterness with a nice hoppy finish. Low carbonation. Well balanced. Good one. Yum.

[50cl can from Aldi, Bracknell.] A dark amber pour with a loose white head; caramel aroma; caramel taste with an earthy bitterness; and a toffee finish. Certainly tastes watered down in comparison to the bottled version.

5.2% bottle versus 4.5% can. Watery with malty sourish hints. A bit like the 5.2% version with lots of water. Not as intense or deep as the 5.2% version. Fruity malty, caramel, not much bitterness. Very dry, easy tod rink with nice caramel in the end.
