Imperial Oatmeal Stout with Coffee, Cacao, and Vanilla Aged in Bourbon Barrels
Coffee Cacao Vanilla Barrel-Aged Dark Star is a blend of 24, 18, 12, and 8-month Bourbon Barrel-Aged Dark Star in 7-12-year old Kentucky bourbon barrels. This special edition adds coffee, cacao, and vanilla with the roasted and chocolate malts to complement the smooth oats and bring you a stout delight wrapped in the gentle embrace of bourbon barrel-aged warmth. A touch of sweetness dances in balance with the hops to finish with a wave, and then she’s gone.
Down & Dirty: 2-Row Pale, Roast Barley, Crystal-60, Chocolate, and Carafa-2 malts with Flaked Oats and Columbus, Willamette, and Cascade hops with coffee, cacao, and vanilla.

Pours jet black with a dense brown head that lasts a long time. Aroma's of ground coffee, roasted malts, chocolate. Retronasal there's additionally booziness, vanilla, cocoa powder. Flavour is above moderate sweet, vanilla, chocolate, a bit roasty bitter as well. Somewhat sharp alcohol feel. Medium bodied. Long finish with chocolate, roast, light moderate bitter.

Sample (thanks omhper!). Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is chocolaty, roasted, some tobacco and mild ashy elements with some really dark chocolaty elements too. Flavour is sweet malts, some liquorice, mild chocolaty tones, roast, mild ashes and some slight spices with a wee bit of warming alcohol as well.

2021 bottle from tfontana, thanks Tom! Drunk 9/16/23. Clear, dark mahogany. Small, light tan head slowly to ring. Oh yeah that's niiiiice. Dry, peppery, bit of ash, burnt caramel, vanilla. Bourbon is spicy with light lead/graphite. Super clean, lightly fruity, not boozey, no excess sugar. Very elegant and polished. Soft, malty, hefty but not sluggish, malty but not sweet. Bourbony but not sharp/alcoholic. Chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, licorice and just spice for days. Caramel finish alongside spicy, fruity bourbon. Drying significantly on the finish. So balanced, mellow and easygoing yet with elegant flavors.

22 oz bottle shared by tfontana, thanks Tom! Aroma is coffee, chocolate, mild bourbon. The flavor is a reflection. Good coffee elements with a decent level of bourbon warming after the sip.

Bottle (2021 vintage) pour from Valley Beverage. Inky black with thin cap of light brown head, trace lacing. Aroma is strong, balanced roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, bourbon. Taste is strong roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, bourbon. Thick, smooth, mild alcohol in the finish. Overall, not getting much cacao and wish the bourbon was a little stronger. Still, quite good.

65cl Bottle. Waxed. Pours Black with a small beige head and lacings. Chocolate, Wood, coffee and roast. It is vinous and slick. Very tasty and delicious. Long finish.

Bottle. Vintage 2021. Pours inky black, small tan head, decent lacing. Aroma is cocoa. Espresso, ashtray, hint of pepper, bourbon. Flavor is medium sweet, light plus bitter. Full body. Not bad, but two years was too long
