Our sumptuous Barley Wine ‘Strongman’ has been re-designed since its first outing 2011. We’ve increased the complexity of the malt bill to include wheat malt, crystal rye, light crystal and aromatic malt in addition to our house Golden Promise.

This additional malt has added a depth of satisfying malty character and layers of toffee and dried fruit. The beer has been carefully aged in freshly emptied Bourbon or Rye Whiskey casks until its ready to take the stage. The finished beer is golden brown in colour with a rich pungent aroma and full palate, which gives way to rich fruit and brisk nutty flavours. The Bourbon version has additional rounded vanilla sweetness while the Rye has a peppery spice to its finish

Best drunk slightly cold, the flavours developing as the beer warms.

23 February 2019. (Tasting formerly known as) RBBWG. Cheers to all, thanks Kraddel for the hospitality! Clear dark brown with a lasting, very thin, tan head. Aroma of caramel, raisin, brioche, peanuts, green tea, vanilla, candied plum, whisky, white pepper. Taste is medium to heavy malty sweet, lots of caramel & plum wrapped in brioche with a nutty edge; light to medium herbal bitter then, tea leaves, earth & pepper with rye whiskey already apparent. Dryish, peppery hoppy finish, lingering caramel, toffee, nuts, wood, warming whisky (whiskey?) alcohol. Medium body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Tasted next to the Bourbon BA Barley Wine; this one is a bit 'rougher' in taste, tad less sweet, I'll go for this one.

750mL bottle share courtesy of RichTheVillan (cheers Rich!) pours with a mahogany colored body that didn't have much in the way of a head. The modest aroma offers up an integrated blend of vanilla, smooth smelling whiskey like booze and then a faint spicy oak to rye sensation. The taste delivers soft sweet notes of vanilla, sweet rich malts and a thin brown sugar note bumping up against smooth integrated whiskey and spicy rye. This is really hitting the spot. Great sipper. Smooth soft vanilla and bourbon brown sugar and booze. The taste delivers similar.
