From the jungles of Jamaica to the barrel room at Firestone Walker Brewing Company comes Dark & Stormy—an exotic mashup of Helldorado and Velvet Merkin aged in rum barrels with a touch of hand-zested lime and ginger. Like its namesake cocktail, Dark & Stormy combines a rich sunset color with spicy rum goodness. Helldorado (blonde barleywine, 80%) sets the tone with its signature honey-coconut character, while Velvet Merkin (oatmeal stout, 20%) rounds out the blend with a hint of rich roastiness. Both beers were aged in barrels sourced from a leading Jamaican rum producer, imbuing Dark & Stormy with delectable rum qualities unlike anything Firestone Walker has offered before.

MBCC 2018. Yellow. Keg. A Theydon Bois whip cracking power rate. Clear amber beer, small cream colour head. Smooth and semi dry palate, decent fine carbonation. Thin malts for the abv but providing some creamy sweetness. Caramel and mild spice. Smooth caramel covered fruits. Light finish. Not getting much of the Carribbean vibe here but a pleasant beer.

On tap at MBCC, Yellow session. Deep dark mahogany coloured body. Filmy layer, clingy lacing. Solid dried fruity nose, hints of nuts. Dark bread, coconuts, raisin, cocoa, and wood in fine harmony to the taste profile. Lingering and warming finish of mid-sweet chocolate and dried fruits. Full bodied. Lovely. (Copenhagen 11.05.2018).

Tap at Cap Hop. Pours darkly, ruddy coppery with a beige head. Aromas of rum, slight dark fruits, citrus, spice - like ginger. Med + body. Flavor is rum, slightly sweet near-toffee, slightly musty wood, citrus, ginger hints. I wish there were more ginger, but the total flavor combo is subtly amazing. Certainly not dry. Certainly not bitter. Certainly extremely tasty. Excellent. I call underrated!
