Art of Neurosis is literally the art of Steve’s neurosis. On of the staples at the brewery, AON was the first big batch that 2nd Shift ever produced and distributed. It actually took brewmaster Steve Crider 47 times to brew this beer before he considered it ready for the main stage.

AON is the first beer I made at the brewery. It is a hop sandwich brewed with Simoce & Columbus Hops, which are the greatest things in the world besides a good smack in the face.

Taster pour at the source. Appearance is clear, light brown, no discernible sparkle, small head. Aroma is pine, floral, fruit/citrus. Taste is pine, somewhat musky, mostly bitter but discernible malt backbone. Palate is light-to-medium bodied, thin, smooth texture, average carbonation with lightly bitter, piney/musky finish. Overall, some complexity here. Good.

Very hazy peach and copper coloured body with a thick, dense three centimetre tall head that seems to stay afloat for a while. Aroma of citrus, peaches, grass and some light resin all come above a good amount of malts and some alcohol with very little else - perhaps some perfume. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong rich malt and biscuity components at first that give way to a distinct and quite deep hop flavour that doesn't show much bitterness, but more earthier and grassier flavours with a touch of pungent astringent flavours and a dose of alcohol near the end. Aftertaste is deep and balanced with a ton of malt and body, but with equal amounts of pungent and complex hops that show some light citrus, but mostly earthy and grainy flavours. Overall, a deep and robust IPA with a good profile and a nice balance throughout with an elegant look and feel and showing good flavours, but not enough of a complexity and strictly IPA components to be great, or worth searching out for. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, from my friend Pat, while watching the fourth of July fireworks from my home over Washington on 04-July-2018 with our five collective kids - Thanks Pat, he purchased this four pack of cans from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia.
