22 oz. bottle, shared by Hamp at Ale Alpharetta. Cloudy, ruby brown color, with a small, tan head. The nose is toffee, burnt oak, syrup, and chicory. Sweet and malty, with a roasted bitterness in the finish. Heavy body, syrupy, chalky, and a little harsh. This is a pretty nice beer, but the flavor has some off character, and the mouthfeel is a littel unpleasant. Lots of potential in the aroma, but doesn’t quite pull it off.

On tap @ Olde Hickory. Pours a brown / black appearance with a thin light brown head. Goopy, big molasses aroma. Some plum and dark fruits in there as well. Carbonation fairly low. Thick black licorice and molasses flavor. A bit of grape and plum. Not really boozy but very thick. Moderate to high sweetness.

Sample at the Blarney Wine tasting on 03/16/2013: Murky brown color with a medium beige head that dissipates quickly. Short strings of lace. Aroma of malt, grain and fruit. Full body with flavors of earthy malt, caramel and a touch of booze. The finish is slightly smoky with a malt and ripe fruit aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle at RBWG 2013 Grand Tasting. Pours clear amber, fine creamy head. Classic American barley wine, lots of bitter pine, some caramel. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, leafy buttress, pine, caramel. Good stuff. A bit bitter, though.
