Big Sky Brewing's Ivan the terrible Imperial Stout is brewed according to the traditional style using English hops and the finest American malt. It's aroma and flavor balance well between esters of dried fruit and roasted cocoa with a slight bourbon presence.

Bouteille 355ml, gracieuseté de lupulist, Thanks Mark! Couleur noire opaque, mousse moka foncée fuyante laissant une fine dentelle. Arôme de malt torréfié, café, grains de café, cendré. Goût de malt torréfié, chocolat noir, amertume faible, café, alcool infime en fin de bouche. Carbonatation faible, corps moyen-dense.

Creamy texture, chocolate, roasted malt, has a nice sweetness to it. Decadent.

12 oz bottle, thanks brenn79. Aroma is chocolatey, ash, earth, raisin. Pours black with a small tan head. Taste is bittersweet, finishing very dry. Flavors of licorice, molasses. A little underwhelming for style, but not bad. --- Beer merged from original tick of Ivan the Terrible Imperial Stout - Bourbon Barrel on 05 Mar 2010 at 19:05 - Score: Appearance - 10 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 10 | Overall - 9.5. Original review text: 2009 vintage. Bottle #820 of 3000 produced. 750 ml corked bottle into snifter. Aromas of whiskey, raisins. Pours black as Ivan the Terrible’s asshole (I said that about Rasputin, didn’t I?). Beautiful lacing and nice head. Perfect, actually. Taste is sour, sweet, then bitter. Vanilla is prominent. A bit fruity, even. Medium carbonation. This is the greatest imperial stout I’ve ever had, I think. How this brewery who is best known for Moose Drool (just an average brown ale) and Trout Slayer (sub-par "wheat ale") created this masterpiece is a mystery. Different head brewer? I don’t know, but I’m proud to know that the greatest imperial stout I’ve ever tried is practically made next door to me.

12 oz bottle poured. Pours a cola black with no head. Love the unique bottle by the way. Has a dark fruit aroma with some chocolate. Flavor is a ton of chocolate and roasted malt flavor, and finishes on a bourbon heat note. Drinks very nicely. Smooth easy flavor. Good beer.
