Bottle direct from the brewery. Pours dark brown-near black with small beige top. Aroma of roast, yeast, blackcurrant, light coffee. Taste of roasted malts to the fore, tangy berries, wood, liquorice. Dry and bitter finish. Body a little on the light side but nice fine carbonation. Quite nice.

Cask at the Shaking Hand, Shirley, Solihull. Poured a clear dark brown colour with an everlasting frothy light tan head. The aroma is roasty malt and yeast. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter, with a big yeasty, light floral, smoky, liqourice bitter palate. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask at the Salmon, Leicester. Dark brown and only slightly translucent, with beige ring of head and lots of lacing. Commercial dark chocolate, some cola nut and touches of yeast extract in the aroma. There's a dogged bitterness to the taste that overrides any other characteristics. Charred bitterness on the tongue after the finish, and the body is full, lifted with the gentle crispness of natural carbonation. A nice cask stout.
