Introducing North Brewing Co x Yakima Chief Hops : CRYO POP IPA

Through scientific methods that we can only begin to understand, Yakima Chief have brought together all the best qualities of the hops that we love to see, taste and smell in a New England IPA, into one single product. Particularly focusing on strains that are best utilised when it is added to the beer during fermentation, CRYO POP brings a mega blast explosion to the senses.

This hop absolutely sings! Its full of tangtastic mango, bright and luscious pineapple and papaya, pangs of passion fruit and lime, plus a scoop of creamy coconut make for one popping single hop IPA!

We are so incredibly thankful to Yakima Chief for inviting us to take part in this world wide launch and choosing us to be the UK brewery to showcased premier CRYO POP! Breweries from all corners of the globe, the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia have all been working away on their recipes, bringing CRYOP POP into their signature IPA styles and now we’re ready to bring CRYO POP into the world!

IPA brewed with the Cryo Pop hop blend recently developed in the labs of the Yakima Valley company – a blend that is said to express and retain the hop aromas better during the brewing process than would normally be the case. North Brewing apparently fell for the idea (after Dok Brewing Company in my city of Ghent had already used it) so here we are. Snow white, moussy, medium thick head lacing in shreds over a cloudy yellow blonde beer with ‘egg yolk’ hue. Aroma of starfruit, green kiwi, lemon zest, moist marijuana, unripe banana, cake dough, white soap, guava, chalk, some sweaty dankness in the background. Very juicy flavour, lots of kiwi, guava and starfruit, soft carb, fluffy mouthfeel; raw lemon cake dough-like feeling in the middle, with a chalky accent underneath, soaked in somewhat dank, sultry, tropical hoppiness, reminiscent of cooked tropical fruits, ripe mango, pineapple and guava, adding a light peppery bitter touch in the end, briefly but importantly so. This is spot on: whether it is that so-called revolutionary Cryo Pop or not, this is a very well-constructed, refined NEIPA, more so than I was expecting, to be honest. North Brewing clearly masters this style perfectly.

44cl can, shared by Wim during Zwanze, thanks.

Can sourced from Ales and Brews and drunk at home (05/08/2021) - hazy golden yellow with a white head. Loving this new Cryo pop, so far it has delivered each time and this is no exception. Vibrant juicy tropical and citrus fruit abound, pulpy mango and succulent juicy tangerine segments, papaya and passionfruit, medium body, solid hoppy finish. Keg at the North bar Harrogate. A translucent golden yellow coloured pour with a lasting off white froth. Aroma is sharp lemon, soft wheaty grains, melon, lime zesty, citrus oils. Flavour is composed of soft bready grains, Sabro, white grape, melon, lime zest. Palate is soft, highish carbonation little chalk. Good.
