Bottle from Morrison’s, Todmorden. Copper-amber with very little head. Lightly sweetened ale with hints of toffee, but it’s all very understated with an underlying bitterness.

500ml Bottle: BBD 31 Mar 15, poured into a Batemans badged UK pint sleeve on 15 Feb 14. Darker and with more body and flavour than the standard XB this is an improvement in my opinion (and I like the normal XB). Darker amber body with a fairly thin and weak white head. Malty nose, with a mild hop aroma poking through. The taste follows the smell, malts ruling the flavours with again the hops playing their part by giving the beer a bitter undertone and a dry finish. Nice.

50cl bottle from Morrisons. Amber with a fast fading white head; herbal aroma; sweet grainy body; some grassy hops to finish. A reasonable bitter overall.
