Cask at Shakespeares Head, JDW, London. Pours clear yellow-gold with a small, white foam head. Light citrus and doughy malt nose. Light sweet flavor with doughy malts, with lemon rind and toasty grass. Pretty boring. Light in body with fine, smoove carbonation. Crunchy hay and toasted malts on the finish, with light dough and dry citrus. Pretty bland overall.

Full name is W.P.B Athletes Ale: William Penny Brooks: is where the WPB comes from. He was the founder of the Wenlock Olympian Society: his picture is on the 500ml bottle I have in front of me. Best before the end of Oct 2012: poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 9th May 2012. Pale amber body, bright, clean and clear: full off-white head on top. Good healthy nose of orange/grapefruit citrusy notes with malty molasses in the background. The taste is a reverse of the aroma: malts ruling the roost with the hoppy citrus flavours arriving towards the end of each sip or gulp. Well balanced and easy to drink: another good beer from a fine brewery.

Cask @ JDW Inverness
Amber, clear, thin white head
Aroma - almost nothing, very very slight pale malt
Taste - light sweet pale malt, soft light citrus fruit, hint of vanilla (?), bland.
Palate - watery, slightly oily, light biter palate. Finish has some soft digestive biscuit, cleans well
Overall - It’s refreshing, but bland with almost no aroma, seems to have little in the way of ingredients. Below par bitter.

Cask, gravity at Shrewsbury Folk Festival, weekend of 26,27,28 & 29th August 2011 Not sure whether this has been brewed for the Athletics World Championships or what but a new Woods beer by the look of things. Pours amber with no head, there is a touch of ginger, light bitterness, its quite spicy, though a little watery and sweet. Ok A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov11 2.9
