Victorious Bitter – a tongue in cheek swipe tribute to Australian cricket team’s official beer Victoria Bitter will be available in bottle exclusively in Morrison’s stores as a collector’s item for England fans across the country.

The naming of the Marston’s brew which was released in pubs last month to celebrate the Ashes win continues along the same vein as its advertisement campaign, which included ‘England has history, Australia has previous’ and We’re English we brew beer, you’re Australian you serve it’.

With an ABV of 3.6 per cent, Victorious Bitter boasts a light floral and citrus taste with a hint of Cascade hops that’s clean and fresh on the palate.

Oct 2010: Brewed to celebrate the winning of the Ashes by the English Cricket team against the Ball and Chain gang from Australia. This 500ml brown bottle was poured during one of my ’random beer tasting evenings’ one month before its best before date. Clear body of light amber beer, almost golden in the light. The off-white head was thin and didn’t stay long in the glass, it didn’t produce any lacing either. The aroma was of hops, slightly bitter, but very hoppy. The taste was also hoppy and fairly bitter, I couldn’t take to the beer however, it was a bit thin, lacked body and just seemed an ’also ran’ sort of brew. Marston’s are producing to many ’naff’ beers for supermarkets and their pub outlets, this being fairly typical of the offerings.

[500ml bottle from Morrisons, High Wycombe] Pale amber, large foamy white head. Bitter, mineral and sulphur taste dominates, and with a watery mouthfeel there’s not a lot behind it. A poor way to celebrate winning the 2009 Ashes series, but then to be fair it wasn’t the most convincing of victories so perhaps this lame beer is appropriate after all.

Bottle from Morrisons, Harwich, consumed at Kolding City Campsite, Kolding Denmark, 24-10-09 £1 a bottle which was excellent! Pours crystal clear mid amber with a filmy white head in fact almost perfect looking. Little bit of boiled sweet on the nose otherwise slightly citric. Very, very bitter in the mouth for a Marston’s effort, its ok other than lacking a malty body. A5 A4 F6 P3 Ov11

50cl bottle from Morrisons. AMber with a thin white head and light carbonation; floral hop aroma; light citrus flavour to start and some grapefruit and green grass to finish from the Cascade; but overall too thin and lacklustre to be interesting. On the otherhand, it is only £1 a bottle, so it’s well worth a go.
