The rumors are true. Often whispered about in the darkest corners of the beer community, World Wide Stout just got a little more complex and whole lot more sought-after. Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, you might be wondering how this boundary-pusher could get any more boisterous. One word – Utopias.

Chock full of intricate aromas and warming flavors, Sam Adams Utopias is a unique blend of aged ales dating back more than 25 years – the perfect complement to an already complex World Wide Stout. And thanks to a shipment of freshly emptied Utopias barrels from our friends at Sam Adams, we were able to see just how well these two beloved brews would mingle. After sitting in the barrels for a full seven months, Utopias Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout was born.

The result is a jet-black, rich and roasty beer with balanced notes of espresso, cocoa, sherry and vanilla that clocks in at 17.3% ABV.

Utopias Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout goes great with (or as!) dessert and is an excellent candidate for cellaring, so grab a few bottles to enjoy now and lay the others down for a few years to share with someone you love

To quote Mia Wallace: “I said goddamn.”

Exactly what this size stout should be. Notes of chocolate, molasses, soy sauce, coffee, roast, burnt sugar, and sorghum, accented by the massive Utopias port-style vinous heaviness and not a trace of the ABV. The perfect marriage of two ridiculous beers. Delicious.

Bottle, 2021 vintage. Rich roasted malt aroma with notes of chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, sherry, licorice, vanilla, oak and whiskey. Pours deep brown with a thin mocha brown head that has little retention and no lacing. Starts with roasted malt, chocolate, licorice, vanilla and sherry flavors as well as having a rich, full body and slick, viscous mouthfeel. Finishes impeccably smooth with caramel, dark fruit, oak and whiskey flavors as well as punch of warming booze at the very end that’s pleasant and well balanced. Fantastic!

Bottle: pours black with barely any head. Aroma is boozy, liqueur, dark chocolate, some soy sauce. Taste is boozy, some chocolate, some umami, wood, barrels. Strangely drinkable.
