Three Sisters Scottish Ale (4.2% abv) is a dark, fruity, refreshing ale that proves a perennial favourite, and is named after the dramatic range of mountains in Glencoe.

Chocolate Malt helps to give this beer its very attractive dark ruby colour, as well as contributing to some of the toasty and liquorice flavours in the beer.

However, a very large charge of whole-flower hops balances the dark malt character with an abundance of hop fruit flavours. These include dried and fresh fruit flavours as well as some more citrus tones not normally found in such a dark beer.

There’s enough ‘going on’ in Three Sisters to keep even the most demanding real ale aficionado happy, whilst the very approachable fruit makes this a popular drink across the board.

500ml bottle at home. Pours dark brown, no head to speak of. Aromas is all raisins and toffee, light smoke. Taste has more sweetness , but not a bad bitter note. Body is light, texture a bit thin. finishes sweet. Not bad.

Clear reddy-amber beer with a thick foamy head. Fruity malt aroma and the taste is a sharp fruit hit with a toasty, malt backtaste. The finish is surprisingly light and hoppy.

A reddish coppery colour, a head is beige and medium. The nose is quite sweet, but balanced, toffee and some roastiness, wood and berries. Taste is dryer than aroma, even the malts are toffeeish, some roastiness and berries, wooden bitterness dries the mouth, also some herbs in the end. Fresh and not musty, even the slightly wooden performance. Light+ bodied, slightly harsh carbonation. Balanced and nice beer.

Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a slightly murky brown colour with a thick white foamy head. Like many Scottish Ales, the aroma was malty, but very weak. The flavour is medium bitter with lots of liqourice that lasts through the palate and into the aftertaste. It’s a little watery though and the flavour generally lacks body. It’s quite drinkable, but not a beer I’d want to drink for the whole session.
