This new ruby-coloured beer has been brewed exclusively for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival. The subtle smoky aroma leads to a soft toffee and caramel sweetness, balanced by a light roasted dryness and a moderate hoppiness, with spicy and dark fruit notes.

Cask @ Richard Oastler, Brighouse. Very dark amber with a creamy head. It’s mildly smoked with fair ham notes in its nose and has a malty underbelly, and hoppy dark malts.

1/3 pint, cask at Rockingham Arms. Shared with Finn. Deep copper coloured body, low off-white head, faint lacing. Moderate smell of dried fruits and toffee. Berry-fruity flavours added by mild caramel malts. Ends rather dry and sweet. Fair enough. (London 16.11.2021).

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 29 october 2021. Deep amber in colour with a moderate, off-white head. Big aroma of caramel, red fruit and smoke. Flavour was sweet, with plenty of doughy malt, crystallised fruit and a touch of the distinctive Wadworth yeast character. Good.

Hand-pulled half-pint in The Shrewsbury Hotel (a Shrewsbury Wetherspoons) on 25th October 2021. I didn't get any smokiness in this ruby coloured beer, decent smooth white head. Plenty of malty molasses within the brew though. I had this beside a Black sheep Monty Python's Dead Parrot and a Bath Queen of Hearts, they all were very similar taste wise.
