Schwarzbier is one of the longest-standing beer styles in continental Europe, its roots being traced back to the medieval period. A classic dark lager, it balances rich, roasty flavours of coffee and chocolate with a dry finish and restrained hop bitterness.

Can from CW online. It pours pretty much black with a decent khaki head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, chocolate cake, nutty, brownie, touch of umami, malt loaf and a touch of liquorice. The taste is dry, toasty, rich roasted malt, umami, bitter - sweet, nutty, cacao nibs, dried fruit, malt cake, liquorice, leafy hops and light tar with a toasty cacao finish. Average body and fine, prickly carbonation. Really rather nice. Well crafted and balanced. Very drinkable.

Can. CW online. Clear, very dark brown. Standard CW swede suits well. Nose has a leathery, chocolatey roast malt vibe. Toasted pine nuts. Steeped vine fruit. Taste has a nutty sweetness. Lightly dry, with some roast bitterness. Smooth and easy drinking. Foamy carbonation. Lingering light bitterness to finish. Lovely gear. Smells amazing.
