It’s thanks to Raphaël’s friendship with Nicolas Pittet and Pierre-Alain Dutoit, winemakers from Lavaux/Vaud, that the L’Amoureuse beers were born. They’re real hybrids – born of a combination of dry Saison and the freshly-squeezed juice of local grapes, blended and fermented together. The result is a relatively dry beer with a light, fruity, vinous nose. Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and refermented in the bottle, the L’Amoureuse will continue to evolve and grow more acidy over time thanks to the wild yeasts that occur naturally on the grape skins

Another bottle bought in blind haste luckily I hadn’t rated prior since it looks like I had #2 rouge version. This pours a white wine coloration with thin head. Nose is grapes and must not surprisingly. Tastes of white grapes, must, pears, vino, floral, and slight tonic water. Pretty thin palate and drying finish. Not all that sour at all good use a lunch of tartness and stronger flavor.

Draft at ChurchKey for Night of the Living Ales: Part 3. Poured a orange-yellow color with a small wispy-white head. Aroma was notes of sweet, barrel notes, some musty notes. Funk. Not too bad.

Bottle from Star Grocery in Berkeley, CA. Pours amber gold with a transient white head. Aroma is white grapes and wheat. Might not have got the grape without a hint tho. It is fruity. Approaches med body. It comes across like a slightly tart cider, but then it does turn somewhat grapey. Gets more tart towards the finish. It’s pretty tasty, but in a non-standard way. Leaves me a bit uncertain.

Bottle. Pours cloudy yellow gold with a small fizzy white head that dissipates quickly with no lacing. Aroma has notes of grain and malt, plus a bit of wheat. Flavor is wheaty, yeasty, with a faint fruit touch (could be grape but I cannot be sure). Finish is alcoholic. Unexciting.

Bottle pour at Sourfest. Pours with a hazed yellow hued body with a small white head that slowly fades. Aromas are of white wine, coriander, phenolic, grapes, tart, lemon zest and some acidity. Medium-low hop and funk. Flavors are tart, grainy and floral. Light lemony component. Zesty, not much wine nor tannin.

05/05 0.375 l bottle courtesy of Marko, great thanks for sharing! Always thrilled to taste good retired beers! It poured hazy orange body with tiny head. Sour vinous, sweetish biscuity and very yeasty aroma. Flavor was sour of course, but very malty, biscuit, orange, some notes of honey and even chocolate to the lesser extent. Rounded up with yeast, but due to generally sour flavor it left impression of the thinner body. Long, slightly sour and more sweet finish, caramel and biscuit with some bitter notes. Alcohol not felt at all, sourness is nicely balanced, this is nothing like some aggressive sour ales, making it very easy to drink even for the people who wouldn’t like the style.

Bottled 375ml. -Courtesy of Marko (thanks!) shared with him and heavy. Hazy orange coloured, no head at all, very tart fruity nose. Vinous and sour fruity, light yeasty and hint of honey. Not so sour finish and aftertaste. Pleasant sour ale.

Enormous thanks to Alex (fiulijn), who sent it to me I reckon after seeing that I was in a relationship, and as fate would have it, I got it only a couple of days after breaking up :D. Well, shit happens, and the gesture is much, much appreciated anyway! Heck, even more perhaps. Anyway, shared it with heavy and ogivlado as the others. It poured a murky ochre body with no head. Dry sweet & sour malty taste, somewhat vinuous. Soft, salty, sourish, slightly vinuous and enormously balanced with a nice maltiness in the end. A bit dusty, no alcohol, sourish aftertaste. Damn, this is an extremely well executed sour ale. Impressive! I’m so damn glad to have tried it.
