Das Stadtbier hat eine lange Geschichte, die bis ins Mittelalter zurückreicht. Das typische Bier der Stadt Münster war zu dieser Zeit Grutbier, ein heute fast vergessener Bierstil. Die älteste erhaltene Urkunde, die uns Hinweise gibt, wie dieses Bier gebraut wurde, ist das Rechnungsbuch des Grutamts von 1480. Diese Akte und auch noch ältere archäologische Funde legen nahe, dass das Grutbier in Münster mit einer Kräutermischung aus Gagel, Wacholder, Kümmel und Hopfen gebraut wurde.

Gruthaus Stadtbier Münster 1480, Fläschchen von Getränkefeinkost, MD. - Hellgoldbraun, trüb; üppiger Schaum. - In der Nase feines, weich brotiges und mild süßes Malz sowie aromatische herbale und zitrusfruchtige Hopfung, aus der die historischen Gewürze nur wenig herausstechen. - Antrunk kernig malzig mit Gerste, brotigem Dinkel und leicht fettigem Hafer; deutlich säuerlich-herb mit feinen Noten von Kümmel und Küchenkräutern. Gut rezent, vollmundig. Im Abgang aromatische, leicht ätherische herbale und zitrusfruchtige Herbe und nurmehr zarte Säure. - Die Mischung aus fünf Getreidesorten und die Gewürze Gagel, Wacholder und Kümmel fügen dem obergärigen Gerstensaft interessante Noten hinzu, das Ganze bleibt aber rund und süffig, wohl dank gekonnter Abrundung mit geschickt gewähltem Aromahopfen. 14/1/2023. Bottle at the Haderslebener tasting. Pours hazy pale straw gold with a large frothy white head. Aroma is herbal, grassy, yeasty, funky edge. Moderate sweetness and bitterness with light sours. Moderate body, slightly oily, quite lively. Interesting.

ABV: 5.7%. Clear medium yellow colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, wheat, oat, spelled malt, sweet malt, spicy. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration, herbs, sweet herbs, spelled malt, wheat, pale malt, spicy - herbal. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20230114]

Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass with a nice head. Spicy malty aroma. Starts mild, malty, a bit moldy, shy sourish. Spicy background. Some hints of pine. Finish more balanced, still light sourish touch. Okay.
