Draught keg at the brewery. Black, impenetrably opaque with a suggeation of film of tan head. I'm getting the dryness of the sherry along with black, foreboding malt. Taste is bitter with Sherry to the fore along with earthy notes, sea salt, treacle's evil twin. Long finish with a creeping almost vinous bitterness. Velvety thick body, low carbonation. Wow.

Can. Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is light and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, a nice dark chocolate streak. The PX barrell comes through loud and clear, sweet ripe fruity sherry with a touch of vanilla. Touch of spicy wood barrel. Light dry finish. Nice. Nice job. With this lovely barrelling, it would have been nice to have a smoother more sumptuous dark malt base. Smooth semi dry finish. Yeah, nice PX delivery system. Could it have been better? Yah, a better malt base coulda shoulda gone a long way.

Can at home, from Brew Cavern online, 16/01/22. Black with a decent khaki cap that dissipates to a good sized swirl and stays for the show. Nose is dark malts, fruit cake, sherry twang, treacle toffee, light spice, molasses, dates, chocolate notes. Taste comprises mellow roast, dark malts, spice, figs, chocolate dipped raisins, toffee, mellow sherry oaked tones, dates. Medium bodied with bite, fine to lightly prickly carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced rising boost. Decent BA impy but a little stuck in 4th gear like the others in the series ... was hoping for a little more and lacking some depth but at the price point they are good vfm.
