473ml can. Pours a slightly hazy pale gold with a small, foamy, long lasting, white head that leaves soapy lacing. Sweet fruity aroma of bready pale malt, passion fruit, papaya, grapefruit, strawberry and piney hops. Sweet fruity flavour of passion fruit, papaya, pineapple, grapefruit, tangerine, orange peel, mango, pine resin, strawberry and light alcohol in a dry, bitter, leafy green hop finish. Medium to full body with an oily texture and average carbonation. Really enjoyable, almost dank.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver, 13 (or 18) Aug 2020, 3 months old
Blond colour, cloudy, with frothy head. Nice aroma, piney hops, a bit zesty. It has a mild malt base, crispy, it's a bit salty, bold hop presence, piney and orangey, but in the final the bitterness is pithy, harsh. Modern IIPA, but with a bitterness flaw.

It's called Metal Head and there's a moai on the label wearing headphones. The only place in the world I've seen a moai other than on Rapa Nui itself was in Via del Mar, Chile. Tom Araya is from Via del Mar, so I decided I had to listen to Slayer while drinking this beer. Quite frankly, I never get tired of Seasons in the Abyss; it's really one of my favourite songs. Can. Pale, maybe a bit more greyish than I'd like, not a particularly compelling look. The aroma is a heady mix of weed, citrus and alcohol. On the palate, alcohol up front, lots of bitterness, mostly grapefruit, tangerine and lemon verbena, all that limonene stuff. The malts are working hard, but they aren't really capable, and that lets the whole thing down, as the alcohol taste takes over and the hops become disjointed. Not bad, but definitely this one needs a bit more refinement to really rock.

473mL can, pours a cloudy golden with a medium white head. Aroma is full of resinous hops, plenty of citrus, some floral notes, caramel malt, and a bit of spiciness. Flavour is full of tropical stone fruits, citrus zest, some spiciness, and booze. It's not the cleanest IIPA, but it's forceful and vibrant. Good stuff.

Mango and tropical fruit aromas on a background of hop resin and a sweet malty base. -Semi-creamy, medium-sized head, persistent, settles on a golden and cloudy liquid. Highly fruity taste to begin with, however develops a sharp and astringent bitterness in the finish. The notes are mango, passion fruit, pineapple, with a sweet malt and honey brioche accents. The finish is powerful with a mixture of conifers and alcohol with a slight astringency. The body is moderately full and the carbonation is just fizzy enough to give a little spice. The balance malt-hops is well pointed. An excellent imperial IPA. Well balanced.
