Proper full-bodied NEIPA with the dankest hops we could find. We like to start the year on the hoppy side and confront the old and new approaches to brewing IPAs. Capulin is the name of a picturesque volcano in New Mexico, where our new favourite hop, Zappa, used to grow wild just a few years ago. The thick and smooth hazy base supports the complex aroma of ripe papaya, cantaloupe, passion fruit and berries and does not forget about bitterness either.

500 ml can, from Vinmonopolet Kvadrat. ABV is 6.5%. Hops are Zappa, Enigma and Mosaic. Moderately hazy golden to orange colour, moderate white head. Distinct aroma of various tropical fruits, papaya, melon and banana. Fairly sweet flavour - I'd suspect some lactose here, but it is not on the ingredients list. Notes of said fruits again, with a moderate bitterness in the finish. Nice to drink.

Tap at NaPalmě. Hazy amber-yellow body, white head. Interesting, soft aroma, herbal notes, light onion, sweet fruit, light citrus, sticky. Soft taste, quite soft, and a bit muddled, undefinable soft fruit, somewhere between stone and citrus but neither, with light herbal and onion notes underneath. The finish goes nowhere interesting, a bit empty, not even traces of bitterness, a bit oaty. Dunno. Not their best beer. And Zappa... Somehow I always see brewers hyping it initially and dropping it after, may be the case again, probably a huge discrepancy between how it smells and how it works in beer? Don't know.

Tap at JBM. Med-high bitterness, moderately oaty, med-light sweetness, med-high carbonation. Hops-centered, lots of exotic, citrusy hops character. Too much oats, which subtracts from the drinkability for me. Also somewhat cheesy yeastiness as it warms. Good but not great.
