What would happen if you aged Seef beer in oak barrels? This beer is the result of this experiment. An intriguing interplay between the 'classic' Seef aromas and maturing aromas, including vanilla, wood tones and subtle wild yeast. The oak barrels give subtle wood touches, a soft body, as well as slightly sharp and maturing accents.

Sampled @ Billie's Craft Beer Fest 2018, Day 1. A slightly hazy dark golden beer with a huge most good lasting off-white head. Aroma of sweet grainy malt, banana, wheat. Taste of banana, wheat, phenols, some spices.

1/XII/18 - on tap @ Billie's Beer Festival Day 2 (Antwerp), BB: n/a - (2018-1957) Thanks to the RateBeer crew for sharing today's beers!

Pretty cloudy amber to orange beer, small creamy off-white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very malty, grains, hay, cow fodder, soapy, rather unpleasant. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: very malty, dirty, unpleasant, soapy, sourish, lots of overripe banana. Aftertaste: yeasty, rotting fruits, not good at all…

Draft glass @ the brewery. Quite surprised to see ABC release a BA version of their Seefbier on pure oak it seems. I do wonder whether this beer was largely born out of a desire to experiment or to try to cash in on the current craft boom? Maybe a little bit of both. Pours very hazy almost strangely murky orange with a lacing white head. Nose is lots of overripe fermenting stone fruit with a heavy yoghurt & vinous quality to it. Taste is that same yoghurt, vinous, almost vaguely wine sour with fermenting fruit, lots of stone fruit running into that yoghurt & wine streak. Body is the same vinous murky yoghurt-esque affair. Quite puzzling overall nice but it doesn’t feel like this is how this beer was supposed to turn out. Overall it came across a strange mishap of sorts but a pleasurable accident. Odd and totally not what I expected but definitely pleasant to drink.

Draught Very persistent, lacey small white head over hazy orange-golden beer; Wood, sherrywood, even port, some malts and grains. Cherry flavour - and sherry. Again sweet malts, alcohol-seeped wood. Very slick to oily, hint at alcohol; medium bodied, very low carbonation. A very nice surprise. Seefbier itself is OK, but this is really good. Try to find it!
