This brawny, tawny ale is a savory celebration of spicy rye malt and rye whiskey, compliments of extended aging in freshly-emptied rye barrels. Rye on Rye pours a deep amber and evokes notes of charred oak and vanilla, with a finish this delightfully boozy and sweet!

On tap at HomebrewStuff. Cloudy medium brown with a slight reddish hue. Thin but dense and lasting beige head and even sheets of lacing. Toasted malt dark caramel flavors. Some of the sharp rye bite. Some mellow brown sugar sweetness as well. Tastes like it’s been sitting in a cool basement for a long time.

Great rye flavor for an American strong ale. Also good rye Aroma with a little bit of booze and malt. Flavor is like nose although the sweetness is overpowering. Thankfully there is enough carbonation to help balance. Body is decent but the finish is hampered a touch by the sweetness. The booziness is present throughout.

Bottle from Craft Brewed. Pours a clearish copper with a quick dissipating beige head that leaves a ring around the glass. Booze all over the nose, sweet malt, sugar babies candy and faint oak as it warms. Really though a boozy nose through and through. Sugar baby sweetness all over the palate, light pepper then alcohol. Finish leaves a lingering pepper and alcohol note. The dibeetus is strong with this one.

Sweet-n-boozy, boozy-n-sweet, more a brown sugar, toffee, and caramel bomb than a rye monster, although the rye is heavy on the palate as well. Spicy on the back end and quite hot, with mild brandied fruit notes, lots of woodsy oak and a modest vanilla streak. Probably a lot better for whiskey connoisseurs than straight beer schmucks like myself, but too liquor-fueled for my blood, growing cloy and spiky as it warms. Pretty red-orange pour with a lingering beige head and a solid coating of lace. Rye and candy apples on the nose. Creamy texture doesn't try very hard to hide the alcohol. Appreciated, but not for me.

Bottle at CBC Islington, thanks to LKS. It pours hazy deep red - brown with a beige head. The aroma is earthy, musty, toasty brown sugars, candy, toffee, dried fruits, brown bread and some wood. The taste is slick, oily, toffee, wood, boozy warmth, vinous, touch of bitterness, dried fruits, spice, brown bread, tannin and rye whisky with a slick, warming finish. Medium - full body and fine carbonation. Mouth - feel is oily. Pretty hefty, but enjoyable enough.

Bottle shared in London - sourced in the US. Pours unclear ruby with a small, bubbly white head. Huge aroma, tangy berries, rum, brown bread, nips of citrus. Medium to big sweet flavour, but still balanced, with some golden raisins, more bread, berries, toasted wood. Medium to full bodied, lily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, with more ripe berries, further toast and berries. Good stuff overall. Has aged well.
