15th February 2013
Hazy amber beer with a good off white head. Palate is smooth with a minerally crisp trailing edge, Creamy malt with a nice tangy sweet vibe that resolves in to sherbet candy. Mild crystallised fruits. Light dry finish. Unusual and delicious!

Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy orange with small frothy white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is floral hop and vanilla. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet malt and light hop with sweet finish. A good barley wine from Kuhnhenn.

12 oz. bottle, sent from northernbrews (thanks a lot, Jeff), pours dark amber with a small off-white head. Aroma has a whole array of things - full of wheat, cardboard, some dry hops, toasted nuts, grains, some faint fruits, caramel and spices. Flavour is full of spicy notes and toasted nuts upfront, with dry citrusy hops, wheat and dark fruits further back. Quite light-bodied for the ABV, with a very sweet, wheaty, spicy and boozy finish. Decent stuff, but nothing overly great.

2012 bottle from a trade with Unclerudy. Pours clear dark copper color with off white head. Aromas of toffee, brown sugar, and citrus. Sweet toffee and juicy citrus hop flavors with some burnt caramel. Thick and syrupy mouthfeel with minimal carbonation. Thanks Mike.

Sampled at the 2nd annual Michigan Winter Beer Festival, Lansing. 2002 vintage. Ruddy orange-brown body, medium cream head. Tart and bursting with citrus, including banana and even pineapple. Warming alcohol. Sharp, fruity, and grassy. Nice.

2004 batch. Light yellow with some pale golds and coppery hues. Good white head and lots of lacing. Quite hazy. Smells strong, sharp and highly alcoholic, lots of wheat smell, obviously, quite pungent and almost sour smelling. Flavor starts out with a huge wheat kick, but it is quite sugary, huge amount of alcohol apparency and a medium to medium full body. Strong pear juice flavor and almost an herbal/vanilla-liqueur like flavor. Extremely warming, moderately carbonated.

Contains 60% wheat, but you wouldn't know it. This dark brown ale was served from a wooden pin at the Michigan Brewer's Festival. Hugely chewy aroma - earth, leaves, toffee. Smooth, oily body, with little carbonation. Silky dark malt flavours. Hints of lime, pear, brown sugar and oak. The wood rounds the beer off nicely. Not unlike Gale's POA (w/o the acidity).
