It all began in September, last year, when we invited our “Rainbow Project” collaborators and good friends, Naparbier, to come brew our first DIPA – “Bone King”. Super drinkable, high ABV beers are Naparbier’s bread and butter, but was something of learning experience for us, being the first time we used Dextrose in a brew (which increases sugar content and therefore ease of fermentation, along with decreasing fusel alcohol making for that cleaner, more IPA-er flavour you know and love!) Well that learning experience turned out to be an absolute treat, resulting in incredible feedback and not only our and Naparbier’s first (of many, hopefully) 100 rating on ratebeer.com, but also a feature in the top 50 beers of the 2014. Excellent news all round, except it was so limited, hen’s teeth were regularly mentioned…

We couldn’t simply let it lie, but simply repeating the collab recipe felt a little half hearted, so we have sampled, tweaked, sampled, then tweaked some more in order to bring you what we are confident is the best final product possible! This marks yet another milestone, as it will be the UK’s first canned DIPA too! As mentioned, the dextrose makes for a much cleaner taste profile, meaning you will hopefully be able to taste the vast complexities alongside how much care and attention has been put into this big, juicy, hoppy, aromatic, in your face double IPA.

Aus der Dose beim Berlin Beer Week 2015 - Closing Event auf der Baustelle der Stone Brewing Berlin 2015-07 getrunken. Gut trinkbares Ale etwas mehr Frucht im Aroma wäre schön gewesen.

Canned 06.12.17, BB 06.03.18. Thanks Yodel..! Still very drinkable, but clearly past its prime. Some hoppyness remains: fruity, pineapple, resin. Strong malty backbone supports it well, and gives a great mouthfeel. No fair rating possible.

Can at Duke of York, 2 months expired, pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out earthy hops, with a bit of pine, and some biscuity malt. Flavour is along the same lines, with earthy hops, cardboard and biscuity malt. Not very good at this age. I'll rate generously.

Can at home from Beer Shop Hitchin. Sometimes in your life you have a beer that makes you sad when you finish the glass and this was one of those rare occasions. It looked and smelt good, but it was all about that flavour of well balanced bitter and citrus hops and I loved it. The hop oils coated the mouth and set my palate zinging from that bitterness. This is a true English double IPA and I say "long live the King."

Appearance- cloudy golden, with a small foamy white head. Aroma- orange, mango, papaya, fresh hops, tropical fruit, pithy grapefruit. Taste- hop resin, juicy tropical fruit, orange peel, grapefruit and pineapple, sticky malt hints, clingy juicy bitterness, hints of rough malt, fruit juice, full, thick and sticky in the mouth. Good stuff.

0.33 l can from 'Braukunstwerk', canned in December 2017. Hazy, orangeish amber with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, very fruity, grassy and slightly resiny aroma of mango, passion fruit, marijuana and some pine. Slightly sweet, moderately bitter, extremely fruity, grassy and dank taste of mango, passion fruit, tangerine, marijuana and some pine, followed by a medium long, moderately bitter, fairly grassy and slightly resiny finish. Medium to full body, very smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very good, really fruity and smooth, lots of flavours and easily drinkable, despite the abv.

330ml can. Pours slightly hazy orange gold. Grapefruit, orange peel, big bitterness, bit piney, bit of caramel, bit of apricot and a load more grapefruit at the end. Some boozy heat. Decent body. Not much of an attempt at balance, but pretty tasty.

At a tasting, many thanks, small quickly disappearing, bubbly head, cloudy quite intense yellow color, flower and onion aroma with some grapefruit in the back, strong onion flavor with lots of grapefruit behind, lingering medium grapefruit bitterness, with a lemony aftertaste. Very nice and enjoyable.
