Bottled, 0.33l. Murky ruby brown color with small creamy tan-like head, soft visible carbonation and some yeast residue. Aroma of spicy yeast, rich malt, tropical fruits, orange peel and coriander. Taste starts sweet and rich malty, then followed by slightly sour dried fruits. Mouthfeel is warm with strong alcohol note. This beer is pretty well balanced, aftertaste is mild bitter and much more spicy. Full body, thick texture and soft carbonation in palate. Not really smoked, but certainly one of the best Unibrou’s that I have tried...

Bouteille 341ml. De couleur ambrée et voilée. Nez de levures légèrement fruitées (agrumes) et épicées (coriandre), léger de malt sucré avec de faibles notes de houblon herbeux, de caramel et de notes boisées. Mince-moyenne en bouche avec un pétillement moyen ainsi qu’une texture aux faibles notes crémeuses. Léger goût de levures fruitées (agrumes) et épicées (coriandre) avec des traces boisées (fût de whisky) lors de l’entrée en bouche suivi d’un d’un léger goût malt sucrés aux notes rôties ainsi que des traces de caramel puis en finale l’on retrouve des petites notes de houblon herbeux. Post-goût moyen, très légèrement amer de houblon herbeux avec des traces fruitées et boisées. (2005)

Bouteille 750ml. Couleur dorée presque opaque, mousse blanche persistante, laissant une belle dentelle. Elle est un peu huileuse sur les parois du verre. Arôme de fumée, de whiskey et de grains. Goût de fumée assez présent, de whiskey avec une finale herbeuse. Texture un peu aqueuse.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Vladimir. Clear amber. Aroma of fruits, malt, caramel and candies. Sweet flavor, malty and fruity, with caramel and a finish that is a tiny bit drier with a hint of alcohol. Medium-bodied.

Has a mediocre nose and a very light follow thrpugh that verges on foul as the clock ticks on. Dont see how and where the smoked vibe is coming from. Dont smell or taste any of that. Tap.

The first time I tried this one (when it came out in 1995), I did not like beer, so I really did not enjoy this one. I remember being quite strong. 10 years after, I had my first rating of it (and really liked it 4 out of 5 - and it was still made by Unibroue). Now, let’s see where this one sits now. Pours a hazy amber (that turns cloudy at the last pour). Its head is big, frothy, with decent retention and average lacing. Typical Unibroue yeast scent with their famous spices. This one use to have a smokey touch to it, but I do not find this anymore. Much more easy-going than what it use to be. Notes of oranges and bubble gum in the finish. So, not as well-brewed as before, but still feels like a Unibroue... just tamer.

bottle - Pours very bubbly gold with a white head and a smell of Belgian yeast and bananas. It’s sweet with fruity flavors, a lively palate, medium body, and somewhat dry finish. It’s smoked? I have nothing in my notes about that so I guess it was mild enough that I didn’t even notice. It’s a good beer though.

Bottle. Bright amber gold color, off white head. Aroma of tobacco and earth. Taste is smooth yet biting peat. Nice.

Cloudy copper with a firm light tan head. Aroma is subetly sweet malts, fruits, light spice, the faintest of smoke. Sweet flavor with a touch of fruits and spice, and light grain. Decent but sadly a bit dissapointing.
