Bottle. Pours darker amber, clear. Small but very stable and creamy white head. Smell is rich, thick, creamy maltyness ( coockiedough ) mild metallic, some banana esthers. Taste is very full, rich creamyness, but a very clear, super-strong and very unpleasant metallicness ( never had metallicness THIS strong in a beer ) giving it strong aspects of nail polish. It’s too far over the top with this aspect to drink the beer, let alone enjoy it. the body and carbo, as well as the taste underneath, are far from bad, but just this overpowering factor ruined the beer completely.

Voici une bière bien commerciale créée spécialement pour un calendrier de l’avent. J’ai tout de même du mal à comprendre la brasserie ’t ij qui ne pourra certainement pas s’enorgueillir d’avoir créé cette bière. Le distributeur par contre aura certainement fait de l’argent en surfant à la fois sur la mode de la bière (dont je ne peux que me réjouir) et de la période de noël où les portes monnaies s’ouvrent plus facilement. Les amoureux de la bière par contre, ne pourront trouver cela qu’affligeant après avoir bu cette bière peu intéressante, peu complexe sur un dominante alcool/épices. En verre, cette ’t ij bière d’hiver est de couleur caramel (EBC aux environs de 34), limpide, avec une mousse blanc cassée la nappant tout juste. L’effervescence est peu marquée avec de très fines bulles. Le nez est plutôt sur la retenue et présente des arômes de candi, de prune, de moût de raisin, d’alcool et de coriandre. Rien d’exceptionnel. L’attaque présente des arômes de candi, de prune sur des notes épicées et une présence de l’alcool déjà marquée pour un ensemble peu harmonieux. La deuxième bouche continue sur cette lancée : caramel, épices et alcool avec une arrière bouche sur la prune et les épices (corpulence peu importante). Les déséquilibres sont patents et rien ne s’arrange avec la troisième bouche avec une amertume quasi inexistente qui reste très en deçà de ce qu’elle aurait dû être (le houblon coûte cher!). Le final, d’une faible longueur, n’arrangera rien avec une présence prédominante de l’alcool (titrage de 9% Abv) sur des notes poivrées. Le sucre est également trop présent en bouche. Bref, alcool et épices/poivres ne font pas en soit une bonne bière, en en plein mois de mars, je n’ai même pas la magie de noël!

330 mml bottle tasted on the 21/12/2016. Remembering "the windmill", Amsterdam. Clear amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma of sweet malts, caramel and dark fruits. Taste is medium caramel, malts, sugar and some hops. Well balanced! Next one please!

AROMA: moderate sweet pear-like aroma with a background of peppery/spicy phenols and subtle floral notes. medium-low alcohol presence. APPEARANCE: dark gold color and translucent. medium-low ivory head with medium-low retention. some lace formation. TASTE: medium peppery/spicy flavor with slight pear notes. moderate malty-sweet background. medium bitterness with a dry finish. PALATE: medium body with a slight velvety texture. medium-low carboantion. alcohol warmth present. OVERALL: a belgian golden strong ale-like beer with the typical characteristics.
