Gnommegang - Belgian-Style Blonde Ale

A little magic and a lot of mischief. This time the gnomes brought more than just yeast from their Belgian farmstead Brasserie d'Achouffe! While Coop and the gnomes were spicing things up at the brewery, our brewers were carefully fermenting signature, fruity, spicy Chouffe yeast to create the flavorful unique blonde ale we all love! You’ll enjoy the smooth drinkability, fruity aromas and flavors, and warming finish.

hazy golden to orange colour, medium sized dense white head; aroma of wheat, citrusy and earthy, maybe some peppery notes, some peach and slight banana; taste of bread crust, sourish wet wheat, peach, peppery and honey notes, as well as minimal banana and citruses; excellent Belgian strong ale

Hazy golden coloured body with a large, four centimetre tall off-white head that leaves a decent lace on the glass. Aroma of honey, bread, yeast, alcohol, coriander seed, curacao, hay and some grass - nice and pungent. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong hay and grass flavours at first with a lot of yeast and wheat noticeable and a good sweetness from honey and bananas as well along with a dry herbal finish that shows similar to a saison. Aftertaste shows a light sweetness, but this is all about the dry quality and yeast complexities of the finish. Overall, a nice and robust beer that shows more of a belgian than of an American, and that is a good thing, given the complexities and the ’old world’ quality of the beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 12-July-2015 for US$2,59 sampled at home in Washington on 17-January-2016.

Bottle. Golden amber with a large, almost white head that lasts quite well. Aroma of ornages, dough, some banana, clove, pepper. Medium bodied, moderate to high carbonation. Sweet oranges, nectarines, what might kindly be called sugary dough, far too much clove, some pepper at the bitter and somewhat hot finish. I suppose it’s not _that_ boozy - I still wouldn’t have guessed as high as 9.5%. And La Chouffe and their "IPA Tripel" are both quite boozy. I dunno why they get away with it and this doesn’t quite - softness of mouthfeel? Better pale malt? More fruit?

Unclear pale golden beer. Dry solvent nose, yeast, white candi sugar. First a dry taste, then getting sweeter and slick, despite good carbonation. Bit middle of the road.
