Here in Brooklyn we’ve combined European malt and hops, Belgian dark sugar, and raw wildflower honey from a New York family farm to create Brooklyn Local 2. Our special Belgian yeast adds hints of spice to the dark fruit, caramel, and chocolate flavors. After 100% bottle re-fermentation, this ale reveals a marvelous dry complexity, enjoyable by itself or at the dinner table.

Very weak raisin and brown sugar aroma. Cloudy brown, thick tan head. Well balanced malt and raisin flavor. Harsh mouthfeel, rotting fruit finish. Disappointing to say the least.

Scored a bottle of this from Chevy Chase Wine in DC. Thick tan head atop a transparent dark brown body. Aroma of Belgian yeast, dark fruits, bubble gum, some citrus. Flavor is nice and the honey really comes through while not being overly sweet, some Belgian candy sugar, Belgian yeast, dark fruits, flowers. Full bodied but drinkable.

Location: 750 ml corked bottle from Gilly's, 7/21/09

Aroma: Dark fruits, honey, citrus, caramel, some spice, bit toasty, touch of vanilla
Appearance: Brown color, thick and lasting foamy light brown head, minor/moderate lacing
Flavor: Tasty and complex, nice sweetness that becomes more bitter through the palate, long duration
Palate: Medium to full body, drinks pretty easily for beer of this magnitude, really nice mouthfeel
Overall Impression: Really nice beer, one of the better things I've tried from Brooklyn Brewery. Ironically this was sitting at home in my fridge when I went on their brewery tour last week, but I didn't try it on the tour, so I figured, why not break it out now? Quite tasty and enjoyable, I would recommend trying both the "Locals" I really enjoyed it.

750 ml. Dark ruby brown body. Frothy, lasting off-white head that slowly diminishes to pools of foam. Complex aroma of dark ripe fruit, plum, figs, raisin, caramel, candy, sugar. Hints of smoke, vanilla, clove, cinammon. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter and lightly acidic. It finishes lightly to modeately sweet, lighty to moderately bitter and lightly acidic. Tastes of fruit and spice with a hint of alcohol. Intense flavor falls off at the very end though the bitterness lingers on well into the aftertaste. Medium body, watery texture and lively cabonation. Nicely crafted beer that starts sweet and fruity with a touch of spice and then turns bitter with a sweet, malty backbone.

750ml bottle–pours a foamy to rocky tan thin head that retains nicely for a high alcohol beer and brown with deep red color. Aroma is medium malt-chocoalte, musty/yeast, medium fruit, secondary spice hops. Taste is medium malt-chocolate/brown sugar, spice hops, medium fruit, sweet with dryish finish. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for picking this out.

Sample at AleFest Columbus (06/27/09): This brew pours a hazy brownish-amber color with a medium and foamy beige head that dissipates slowly. Rings of lacing on the glass. Roasty aroma with dark malts and fruits. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, raisins and citrus. Spiced hops are present, as is the alcohol. The finish is rich and fruity with a malt and yeast aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Bottle, 75cl corked, shared by the brewer. It’s a semi-clear, copper-colored beer with a nice-looking off-white to beige head. Dried fruits, a hint of roasted malts, citrusy hops and a tiny note of alcohol on the nose. Sweet, caramel flavor with dried fruits and a nice citrusy hoppyness. Good bitterness too. Medium body, nicely carbonated. Pleasant bitterness in the finish. I prefer Local 1 to this one, but it’s still a really good beer, dangerously easy to drink, and quite tasteful too. (090515)
