Pours rather unclear, bit darker amber. Small white head. Smell is sweet, fruity and spiced. Taste is bit madeira, bottle seems to be past the best by date ( as all others ordered today @ delirium bar Brussels ) Ok, still, not too shabby, but way past is prime & this should not be sold as fresh.

Commissioned "bière de Hotton", bought at Le Pré Vert in Bastogne. Very violent gusher, spouting out of the bottle upon opening. Thick cobweb-lacing, greyish white, irregular head over a cloudy - and eventually murky - bronze-ish deep amber coloured beer. Aroma has strong spiciness of all sorts, hints of curcuma, sweet red curry, liquorish, ras al hanout, dried apricot, pomegranate, fried egg, earth, coriander seed, vague dried mint. Fruity sweetish onset, apricot, dry banana, fig, sourish berry-like touch bringing balance, medium carbo, bready and honeyish malt sweetness upon which the sweet, aromatic spiciness is built growing stronger towards the end, a bit soapy (coriander?), phenolic and liquorish-like, earthy hop bitterish accent. Typical ’overdrive spiciness’ which I’ve encountered in other Saint-Monons, and the heavy gushing did not help in my appreciation of this.

33cl bottle BB 06-2015.
