Racer X® is an uncommon Double India Pale Ale which puts a California twist on English brewing traditions by adding an assertive hop aroma and bitterness that compliments the firm malt backbone. Like its little brother Racer 5, Racer X® is balance in a bottle.

65 cl bottle vintage 2012 @ home
Aroma has hops, resin, biscuits and some fruits. Flavour has fruity hops, some resin and glue. Nice and fresh hops, but the glue notes and stickyness ruin the show.

650ml bottle

Pours dark orange with a bubbly white head. Strong aroma of fresh hops, grass, pine, caramel, malts and fruits. Fresh hoppy aroma with some grass, pine, lemon, citrus and caramely malts. Finish is slightly sweet and malty with a nice hoppy finish. Tasty and balanced, fresh and hoppy IIPA. Nom.

Tap. I was looking forward to this one. Pours clear orange amber with a medium white head, creamy with great lacing. Aroma is pleasant enough, with grapefruit and pine notes. Flavor is medium sweet caramel, grapefruit and pine, hugely bitter throughout leading to a very bitter finish. A bit too much of a good thing for me.

GABF 2012 (and later bottle re-rate). Multiple pours over Thursday and Friday. Pours a dark golden appearance with an off white head. Very dank, spicy, grapefruity aroma. Carbonated, zesty, very dank, piney flavor. Nice stuff.

Tap at Rattle’N’Hum, Manhattan - 02/03/12. Cloudy orange to copper in colour with a medium off-white head. Ripe citrus fruit nose, grapefruit, mango, orange and lemo peel, pine, sweet malt backbone. All of the above in the taste with a little grass, slightly sticky but with a dry bitter finish. Medium bodied - spot on, great DIPA !

Bomber thanks to Robert. Pours a deep copper color with a large creamy white head. A sweet nose of floral hops with some tangerine and light biscuit. The flavor is excellent; sweet citrus, rich and lightly bitter, resin, very big flavors, mellow and super drinkable. Lingers with some bitterness. Excellent.
