You may have heard the story about Oskar Blues getting sued by Guns N Roses for making Guns N’ Rose. But did you know that another Colorado brewery had already exported a rose beer to Japan? Crooked Stave Sour Rosé 4.5% An orange/rose color with a very minimal beige head. The aroma on the American Wild Ale fermented in Oak (foeders) with raspberries and blueberries is lightly tart berries with some saison evoking funk and wheat maltiness. Light bodied and quite tart with acidic berry flavor leaning more towards raspberries but you can also distinctly get get notes of waxy blueberry skin and sweet flesh in the background. Probably the nicest Crooked Stave I’ve had in Japan.

It's a pretty nice beer. Raspberry notes up front are authentic. Nice crisp semi-dry malt palate with a pleasing tartness. Very drinkable. Nice red/pink-tinted amber color, short head. Not especially complex, but a good simple fruited sour that avoids the fatal flaws of sweetness or fake fruit tastes.
