Clear copper beer, finely carbonated to huge, slighly yellowish head. Dry UK hops, yet fragrant. Hints at garden herbs, crisp. Sweet malts balanced by dry hops, leaving a tittilating, bitterish aftertaste. Light body, even a tad empty. Medium to good carbonation. Not bad, and very convincingly Stiffupperlippish. Txs to Stef!

330ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Oct 22. Deep golden pour, large white head. Quite funky and bretty for an English-style pale ale, as the label states.. quite decent tho, interesting.

24th October 2022, mini gathering at Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury; just three of us sharing beers and talking bollox. Another of my donations, 33cl bottle: BB 15th September 2023. I actually thought this was decent. Large white head on a misty golden body, it has a malty feel to it's aroma and taste, some hop bitterness late on too. The label is a weird, Belgian take on London life!

5/VII/22 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ scouting camp, BB: 15/IX/23, BR4-5 18M (2022-858)

Cloudy blond beige beer, huge creamy irregular fizzy off-white head, stable, adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: malty, grains, hay, little fruity, some citrus, peaches. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, malty, some caramel, fruity notes, citrus, hoppy, bitter. Aftertaste: nice bitterness, some citrus, grapefruit, zesty, dry, some more bitterness, hoppy, resinous hops, zesty, dry finish, nice one!

“London pale ale” by ‘t Verzet – brewed with English ingredients and ‘de facto’ an EPA, or a bitter if you will. Thanks Leopold! Egg-white, moussy, stable head, warm peach blonde-golden robe, hazy – looking like a glass of bitter indeed. The aroma follows suit: grass, crackers, bread crust, field flowers, green pear, moist white pepper, very vague diacetyl as would befit a true English bitter (and could even have been more for me) and a touch of orange peel from the hops. Smooth, clean onset, some apple peel and a vague note of unripe apricot, softish carb, dryish cracker- and bread crust-like maltiness gradually bittered by a long, rooty, spicy and very quenching hop bitterness in which the citrusy effect remains altogether subtle – had it been more outspoken, it would have connected this beer more tightly to postmodern U.S. inspired English brewing, but with it being more restrained, the association with traditional English bitter is easier to make. Works very well for me – but I have a weakness for bitter, and this may well be the first time this old-fashioned and in Belgium very sparsely known style is brewed in a credible way in this country. I will repeat this one bottled too, because that may be a very different story.

Hazy dark blond colour with lasting head. Aroma and flavour are malt forward. Fairly sweet malt base. Slight diacetyl.
