Lights out is a blend of Stouts aged in Heaven Hills barrels for 12 months. We finished It on over 20lbs of toasted coconut per barrel, resulting in a Stout bursting with coconut goodness. On the nose, aromas of coconut prevail, with undertones of rich dark chocolate and bourbon. On the palate, look for similar flavours to dominate along with notes of coffee, black licorice and vanilla on the finish.

355ml can, 2022 version, 11,7 % abv. Many thanks to pictoman for this beer gift. Shared with Finn at his place. Jet black in the glass, filmy layer, dotted spots on the glassware. Quite inviting aromas of nutty chocolate. Coconut dominates the taste character, hints of chocolate and dried fruits to it. Ends rather sweet with distant notes of bourbon. Slow sipper qualities. (Rating no. 23500) (Tromsø, 25.06.2023).

2022 version. 11,7%. Gave fra Pictoman. Delt med Rune på Vervet. Svart. Mokkafarget filmskum. Kokosnøttaroma. Silkemyk munnfølelse. Smaken kokosnøtt - og litt bourbon. Uvariert. Alkoholen kjempegodt kamuflert.

12 oz can poured, gifted by mcberko. Thanks! Quite the treat here. Dense, jet black appearance. Big whiskey nose that jumps out during the pour. Really strong indications, with some smooth chocolate and dark, bold fruit notes. Coconut hides in the aroma for me, but it headlines the flavor. Toasty coconut front, with a slightly sweeter finish. Potent booze, but not harsh in any way. Blends well with the whiskey, coconut, chocolate, and semi sweet character throughout. A bit of a doughy finish. Overall, a really nice brew here, that really captures the perfect amount of coconut. Solid ratio with this excellent stout.

Courtesy of and shared with pictoman, huge thanks! Almost pitch black body, with a brownish tan head, receeding quickly. Big old barrel aroma, vanilla, some coconut, very, very creamy. Very, very drinkable as well for over 14%. Coconut, dried figs, caramel, gummy towards brown sugar, there's some alcohol burn but it's not annoying. Very nice really!

2021: Dark brown. Medium head. On the nose, lots of chocolate, coconut, really elegant bourbon, and a slight bit of alcohol. Very rich palate. Lots of bourbon up front, bringing some heat but a great bourbonic character that goes well with the metric fuckton of toasted coconut. Rich, thick, chocolatey sweet base to this. Great character. All the elements are massive, and all are delicious. The barrel brings it all together for me.I don't even find the heat to be egregious. Big winner, this one. 9 4 9 4 18 = 4.4

355 ml can. Pours black with short tan head. Aromas of coconut, sweet bourbon, chocolate nougat, and slick roasted malts. Rich sweet flavors follow same with bourbon and coconut in great balance. Hot finish but still wth lots of coconut.

Re-rate: Poured from 355mL can (side by side with 2019 and 2020). Near black with small beige head. The most pronounced bourbon quality of the three versions, thought I feel the Basil Hayden (2020) is more cohesive with the rest of the flavours. Less coconut than 2020, but still very well done, very enjoyable. Lowering just a touch. Really enjoyable, but not as cohesive as the 2020 version. Nov 25, 2021 (9/4/9/4/18=4.4): Poured from 355mL can. Black with tan head. Bourbon barrel forward (though not overbearing) with molasses and a foundational underlay of coconut that lingers nicely. Still have yet to try the 2020 version, but this is excellent, quite balanced and smooth.

355mL can, pours jet black with a tiny brown head. Nose brings out a lot of bourbon barrel upfront, plenty of booze, subdued coconut and a little molasses. Flavour is rich and decadent, with a ridiculous amount of coconut upfront and plenty of bourbon barrel, followed by molasses and a perfect warming effect. A little less sweet and more bourbon presence compared to the 2020 version, which somehow improves on an already fantastic beer. Wonderfully constructed. Lovely.

2023-12-31, vintage 2021, 2 years old, 8-4-9-4-18=43
Coconut and roasted malts in the aroma. Sweet, mellow; chocolate and alcohol, almonds, coconut.
2023-12-01, can, 2022 vintage, 8-4-9-4-17=42
The roasted character seems stronger than usual; luckily it's still very sweet and dense; coconut cream.
2022-11-26, can, 2022 vintage, 11.7% ABV, 8-4-9-4-18=43
Dark brown colour, barely any head. The aroma starts with cacao, chocolate, dark sugars, then toasted coconut, vanilla. It's full bodied, it's sweet, quite thick; rich chocolate flavour, with caramel, dark sugar, vanilla, coconut cream, toasted coconut, gentle warmth, but not boozy at all.
Less impressive than previous iterations, but it's great nonetheless.
2021-11-19, can, 8-4-8-4-17=41
Black colour; large brown head, but disappearing very quickly. Moderate aroma of dark chocolate and roasted coconut, dark sugar, some alcohol. Sweet, full bodied, enough malt depth; the dark chocolate flavour mingles with the moderate roasted coconut, it's warming but not boozy.
Excellent. A step up from the Gold Foil. But less achieved than the Lights Outs 2020.
2021-11-12, draught at the brewery, 8-4-9-4-18=43
Black colour. Aroma of dark chocolate, coconut, spirit. Burning alcohol and sweet malt, with chocolate, coconut, Bourbon. More bourbon evidence than the 2020 version.
Excellent.
