This beer features flaked oats from the fourth oldest business in the UK (Mornflake 1675). As well as adding body, the oats contribute a silkiness not commonly found in beers of this ABV.

Keg @ Tom's Tap & Brewhouse, Crewe. Black with a small off-white creamy head. Steady stout, not quite worthy of the mighty tag. Crisp and smooth keg pour. Bushy-floral notes.

GBBF Day 2. Cask. Almost clear deep amber brown beer, tiny tan head. Smooth and very dry palate, modest fine carbonation. Thin dark malts, a little cream and papery chocolate. Modest ripe fruits. Dry finish. Okay but bloody dry.

On tap at The Green Goddess Brewpub, Blackheath Standard. Black pour with a light tan head. Nose is dark chocolate, liquorice toffee, creamy coffee, raisin. Taste is very much the same. Unsurprisingly dry. Roasty malty finish. Goes down very nicely.

Cask at Crewe Dog, Crewe. Pours almost black with a medium sized foamy cream head. Oats to the fore in the aroma – but not overwhelming. In the mouth it has a rich smooth creamy texture. It starts off being sweet (though a tad watery) with dark fruits as the main flavour. Later on roast malts, oats and a touch of chocolate come through to liven thigns up. Finish is sweet and oaty. Really very nice indeed.
