The Meerts Tilquin series was made by fermenting fruit that had already been used once. Five different forest fruits were fermented for a period of 4 months in a blend of 80% 1 year old Meerts and 20% of a blend of different 2 year old lambics. Meerts (or March Beer) is a low strength lambic, which was originally produced with the weaker wort obtained from the rinsing of the grains. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, they are refermented in the bottle.

Poured from a 375 ml, 2020 / 2021 vintage bottle. Aroma is rather berry-forward with a nice jamminess to it. Lighter earthy, herbal funk and hints of oak and lemons. Faint grain notes. Light alcohol notes. Pours a pinkish red with some light orange hues and a medium sized, medium thick, frothy, slightly pink head that recedes quickly to the edges where it lingers a bit before disappearing. No lacing and faint legs. Flavor is slightly acidic with light grain notes. Low bitterness and light alcohol notes. Fairly strong berry notes with a decent jammy character. It's hard to pick out the individual berry notes but you can pick out some if you really try. Hints of lemon and herbal, musty funk. Faint oak notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, this is definitely the least lambic forward of the Meerts that I have tried so far; I bet cassis will be similar. Really pleasant berry notes that are lighter and less acidic than I would expect from a typical berry lambic. Base lambic is still a bit overwhelmed though.

--Sample, thanks fonefan! -- Clear reddish amber, small head. Horseblanket meets fruit berries up front. Tart with medium body and crisp, rounded mouthfeel. Intense funky horseblanket, mild acidity and balanced contribution from forest berries. Wonderful!

Sample (20/21 thanks fonefan!). Reddish amber colour with small white head. Aroma is red berries, some mild wood and some mild funk and some dry wooden tones. Flavour is a bunch of red berries, some mild wood, funk, wood and also nice earthy elements. A bit acidic. Most experimental of the four Meerts beers had this evening. Funny enough Rowanberries in aftertaste....

Taster showing tomato red with half a finger of clean white foam.

The nose shows intense notes of brett and barnyard funk.

The palate is well carbonated and light bodied. Intensely tart with some hints of tomato. Not a lot going on and fails to achieve what it seeks to do.
