Bottle at home in London - picked up at the brewery a while back. It pours clear gold, energetic with lively carbonation and a billowing, frothy white head. The aroma is dominated by saison yeast character, with accents of damp grass, ripe lemon, faint sweat, doughy wheat bread. Medium sweet flavor with hints of white sugar, rich wheat bread, some boozy kick, bitter lemon rind and slight grass, yeast, mild phenols. Medium to full bodied with active carbonation. Finishes sweet and lightly warming, with further dominant yeast, light citric astringency, pale bread, alcohol, grass and rind. The balance and ’drinkability’ could be better. Not bad overall.

330ml bottle. Barely clear golden colour with huge, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Slightly sweet-ish, funky, slightly bretty, bubblegum aroma, notes of yellow apple, yeast spiciness, a cautious, backgroundish touch of brine; resting for a while, the less sweet and bretty aspects gain some weight. Taste is dry, bitter hoppy, slightly fruity, notes of yellow apple, a touch of lemon, herbal and peppery spicy notes, a touch of brine, subtle fruity sweetness. Rich, intense and diversified, superbly balanced, albeit not really easy drinkable in the strictest sense. Has the potential to become a classic, paving the way for the novice, making the style accessible, while still satisfying the old stager.

33cl bottle. Label says 6,9%. bbe 030415, batch nr 197. Pours hazy golden, thick white head. Zesty lemony aroma, yeasty notes, sticky spicy somehow. Grapefruit in flavor at first, followed by lemon, spices, yeast. Very bitter. Very dry. Hoppy saison.

Bottle at home picked up at Bottledog KingsX. Golden orange coloured pour with a light haze and a lasting off white froth. Aroma is very punchy zesy lemon mixed with big classic frech saison yeast and wheaty grains. Nice. Palate is pretty abrasive carbonation that attacks the tongue and airy in the mouth. Finish is nice and dry. Flavour is a bed of doughy wheaty grains, some some straw, chamomile and bitter orange. Finish has some slightly harsh bitter lemon zest hop bitternes. Saison yeast comes through well in the flavour.

Bottle at the taproom, 31/10/14. Lightly hazed golden with a big old off white covering. Nose is tinged with hops, bitter orange, straw, spice, tangerine, quite sweet. Taste comprises tangy citrics, apricot, bitter orange, light spice, citric sherbets, straw. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent hoppy saison, perhaps a little too sweet for the style but very drinkable none the less.

Bottle. Beer Central, Sheffield. Labelled as East End Saison. 6.9%. Hazy gold. Big, bubbly, lasting, off white head. Minty, green hop. Spicy, ginger nut biscuit malt. Taste is light, sugary, spicy sweet. Some dryness. Surprisingly bitter. Palate is pretty full, but retains a dry, spicy freshness. Finishes with the green hop, fresh bitterness. A tad full on, and a bit dry and bitter, but very tasty. In lovely condition. Looks good, too. One I’d have again.

Cloudy orange beer with a thin head. Hoppy orange scent. Flavour comes with a strong orange hit too, with a floral hop feel in the mouth. Finish is slightly watery but it does have a refreshing bitterness to it. Very nice.

Keg at CASC, Aberdeen. It pours clear amber with a medium white head. The nose is earthy, dough, spice, hay, straw and some pear drops. The taste is crisp, bitter, spicy, earth, hay, dough, light apple and pear with a dry, spicy finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A touch spicy if truth be told. Ok.
