One Barley Wine, split between three barrels to age and evolve.
This expression has developed in a 5 year Apricot Brandy Barrel. The brandy was rich and sweet with syrupy apricots, which brings out delightfully complimentary notes in the beer. The profile will continue to change as it matures but it’s a delicious beer to enjoy now.

Bottle, drinking together with my father on Christmas day. Color: Clear copper, no head. Aroma: Raisins, dark fruit, sweetish. Taste: Boozy, fruity raisin and apricot, sweetish, caramel, malty, subtle spicy. Some almond, hints of nuts. Medium sweet, moderate bitterness. Full body, almost no carbonation. Nice one.

A hazy brown beer with a short lived bubbly tan head. A fairly light palate with decent fine carbonation. Sweet malts, caramel and light cream, not a huge amount of depth here but for this particular barleywine, that doesn't really matter as its main job is serving the barrel which brings sweetish vanilla oak and a trace of wet wood. The Apricot Brandy is slightly spicy and suitably boozy with only a medium apricot vibe. Finishes fairly smooth. I found this incredibly drinkable despite its simplicity. So drinkable that I unintentionally sank about 700 of its 750ml and probably would have finished it if I hadn't fallen asleep! Rather nice then!

75cl bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, March 22. Thanks Simon for this. Lively one this, took a while to settle. Deep chestnut amber appearance, large off-white head. Lovely smooth brandy and apricot coming through alongside rich stewed dark fruits, sweet syrup and toffee. Harmonious blend, really very good.

Monday 7th March 2022, monthly beer exchange in Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Usual 5 suspects sharing beers and talking bollocks. Cheers Mike, what a gusher! Really enjoyed this once it settled down, it flew out the bottle. Dark, deepest amber body, off-white topping (large). Great Apricot Brandy feel to this, loved it.

Bottle at home, massive gusher. Pours deep amber, nose is apricot, lemon, caramel, wood, funk, taste is brett funk, sharp apricot, citrus, chewy. --- Beer merged from original tick of CRIMSON & CLOVER 2021 on 03 Jan 2022 at 18:24 - Score: 4. Original review text: Massive gusher, seems slightly infected. Quite disappointing given the high price point.
